Kick Ass the movie review.....

Have been watching the trailer of this film for quite sometime... thinking I have to watch this flick, it sure will be lots of fun to see funny superhero wannabe stuff..... but was I dead wrong!!!

Have not the privilege to browse over this particular comic book series, I was glad to have been given the chance to review this movie. If you are not a comic book fan of Kick-Ass, and don't know what the movie is all about. That, your perceptions of this movie with the showing of many of their trailers, you would think how cool this movie would be for the kids to watch and enjoy on a weekend out......

Then you are mistaken....

Kick-Ass is what comic fans want how the comic strip should be done in movies..... bloody, violent with a pinch of comedy and definitely Kick-Ass.

Adapted from Mark Millar's hyper-violent comic book of the same title.... Kick-Ass tells how ordinary human beings and teens for this case, stood up to fight for the cause of the helpless and for the greater good of humanity.  But in the case of these so called superheroes, none of them had any power like any superhero should have... all they have is guts, and an arsenal of fighting skills.
Kick-Ass is Dave Lizewski (Aaron Johnson), an ordinary with no skills at all decides to wear a suit and fight crime thinking it would be cool... not knowing what reality has in store for him.  Before long, Kick-Ass has become an international sensation via the world wide web and many thanks to Youtube, and others are following his lead. Big Daddy (Nicolas Cage) and Hit-Girl (Chloe Moretz) are a father-daughter crime-fighting duo who have set their sights on local mob heavy Frank D'Amico (Mark Strong).  What sets in is an action packed, adrenalin rushed movie!!

Kick-Ass and Red Mist
Aaron Johnson as Dave/Kick-Ass, Chloe Grace Moretz as Mindy/Hit Girl and Nicolas Cage as Damon/Big Daddy
Chloe Grace Moretz as Mindy/Hit Girl

I am not a comic book fan, I am a superhero fan.  They are not superheroes, they are just dressed like one..... but I love them..... these so called superheroes do pack a punch on their sleeves..... what I love the most? Hit Girl!!!.... I think I'm in love with her... Chloe Grace Moretz portrays Mindy / Hit Girl, in my opinion she plays the perfect role for this character, aggressive, witty, dangerous.

Chloe Grace Moretz is also the nerdy kid that makes the school newspaper in "Diary of a Wimpy Kid".  Her role here as Hit Girl is by far her biggest stepping stone to a better career ahead... I love her moves and her face donned in her mask.. with those lovable facial expressions.  I can assure you, she will go far with her career. As for the movie itself two words KICK ASS!!!

Word of advise..... this film is PG13. I advised though not to bring kids along for this movie..... it is purely adult fun. Violence and a little sex related scenes will be more than you can bargain for.  I would say teens at least above 16 would be ok.  Enjoy the Movies!!

Kick-Ass is distributed by Viva International Pictures
Directed by Matthew Vaughn

Kick Ass the movie.....

Watch out for the new Superheroes in town....... Super is out!!!

Dave dons a costume, dubs himself ``Kick-Ass,'' and gets to work fighting crime. Dave joins forces with the father-daughter vigilante team of Big Daddy (Nicolas Cage) and Hit Girl (Chloe Grace Moretz), and befriends another fledgling crimefighter called Red Mist, but their alliance is soon put to the test by a scheming mobster.

Date Night ...... movie review

Date Night.... a comedy relief from "Night of the Museum" director Shawn Levy

The first collaboration between two of the best comedians of our time... Mr. Steve Carell ("The Office") and Tina Fey ("SNL, 30 Rock").... a movie of a boring couple from New Jersey, Phil and Claire Foster... just wanting to break out of the ordinary date night in town, decides to have a date at a famous resto in downtown New York, goes to it hoping to get a table without a reservation.

And soon after when they made it to the city... since the place was packed... and having decided to have their way, took someone else's  reservation... the reservations made by the Triplehorns, not knowing the Triplehorns were a bunch of thieves whose item they possess will get them in trouble.

Thus starting a turn of events that leads to an unforgettable Date Night.

This movie is so hilarious.... I almost fell off my seat laughing it out... a perfect weekend movie.  Please don't bring your kids to see this movie, as some of the language may be offensive to them... other than that the whole package was very sweet...  a very popcorn movie...... you will enjoy it.

Clash of the Titans

 Sam Worthington as Perseus

Rave reviews are all in for this movie.... but just a reminder please don't watch this in 3D.... really not worth it.
Why? because this film was not really intended for the 3D format... they only joined the hype after the success of "Avatar".  I have nothing against the movie itself.... the effects were amazing, but is just not 3D enough.

So why waste another 100 bucks or more to watch it in 3D format, when  you can enjoy the same great effects in 2D.

Sam Worthington has definitely made his mark in the Hollywood film industry, joining the ranks of big action stars as a bankable lead actor turning in 60 million dollars on its opening week... 50% of the box office due to higher prices of the 3D format.
This movie was one of the most anticipated one for this year... The storyline follows that of the first Clash of the Titans movie in 1981. Except with a new twist and definitely greater effects.

It follows how man was used by Hades (played by Ralph Fiennes) to start a war against the Gods... Perseus, a demigod ( used to name sons of Gods), is the reluctant son of Zeus (played by Liam Neeson), who was orphaned by Hades from his mortal parents, seeks to find justice and end all ties with the Gods.

What happens next is the collaboration of a demigod Perseus, and the bravest of men to fight the Gods and end all misery that men feel..... that men are made by Gods.. but men have their freedom of choice and are not controlled by the Gods.

Be astounded by the special effects and magical creatures abound..... it will be one hell of a ride.

Now showing in major theaters nationwide in 2D and 3D.

A Director's take on "Alice in Wonderland"

The long wait is finally here.  Alice in Wonderland is finally showing on March 4, 2010. Brought to the screen by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures International with the only director fitting to do this flick Director Tim Burton.

"Well, 3D is not a fad. It’s here to stay." - Tim Burton

Many a trend nowadays are 3D films, there a quite a lot in the movie scene and more to come as the year progresses...

Tim Burton's take on this film was very anticipated... his perspective of making movies has made him a huge asset for Hollywood movies such as his work in Edward Scissorhands, and the first Batman Franchises which were a huge hit during those times.

We all know what Alice in Wonderland is about..... but imagine putting Tim Burton in the helm of making this film, then I would say Alice in Wonderland will never be the same again....

This film stars Johnny Depp as the "Mad Hatter" and Mia Wasikowska as 19-year-old Alice, who returns to the whimsical world she first encountered as a young girl.  Johnny Deep has made a lot of movies with Tim Burton that sometimes you would think they are related ... lol.... I'm sure they bring out the best in each other.  What to expect about this movie.... everything from laughter to tears to craziness and the insanity of it all.  Better watch it to find out.... Opening on March 4, 2010 in 2D and 3D.. I would suggest watching in SM North Edsa IMAX....

See you in wonderland.... be sure not to miss this....

Movie Review : FROM PARIS WITH LOVE

I was invited to the premiere showing of "From Paris with Love" starring John Travolta and Jonathan Rhys Meyers and directed by Pierre Morel (Taken) which took place at Robinson's Galleria cinema 2, distributed by Viva International Pictures.

(Thanks to azrael http://azraelsmerryland.blogspot.com/
and Ms. Arlene Garcia for welcoming us movie bloggers to the event)

This is the first collaboration of these two great actors, where John Travolta plays Charlie Wax, an agent sent by the United States to get the job done, that teams up with Jonathan Rhys Meyers as James Reese, an embassy worker, with an ambition to be an agent, has to partner with Wax to be what we can say is "to be part of the club".

                              "WAX ON, WAX OFF"

Just like the old days, John Tavolta kicks a** in this movie, it seems he doesn't even age a bit during his action sequences and flawless gun shooting antics... kinda reminds you of his action sequences during his top notch movie "FACE OFF" with Nic Cage.  Though this time add a little spice and comedy relief with a natural way of expressing his comedic side. John's charisma never fades....

On the other hand, we have Jonathan Rhys Meyers... gone are the days when he was just part of the cast as he has portrayed in MI:3, he has been given a lot of projects lately, also in his credits is his portrayal of King Henry VIII in  "The Tudors". He has much potential to be seen.

Now to the exciting part, the plot revolves around the what should we say the bad side of Paris, the side where France does not want you to know... the underground..... the mafias.... the drug dens.  The location is set in the great city of Paris, Wax (Travolta) and Reese (Meyers) set out within the streets of Paris looking for clues and leads as to who is the mastermind behind all the drug dealings within the city which came about the death of a niece of top US official.  They set out to discover that some are plotting an assassination of a US official not knowing who is the bait.... what comes afterwards are bullets flying all over.. action sequences and must I say an awesome car chase..... the driver of that AUDI should be commended, exquisitely done and full of adrenaline..... I'd love to learn how to drive like that.

In the end it all comes down to brains of Reese and the brawn of Wax to finish the job.  This is an action-packed movie I would recommend to anyone.... even if you're not a Travolta fan, the action sequences here would leave you at the edge of your seat, and wanting for more.....

I would love it if there would be a sequel to this..... the combination of Travolta and Meyers is a class unmatched by any duo on screen.  So what are you waiting for.... fall in line.. watch this flick!!! You won't regret it. Well worth your money spent...

Regular showing starts on Feb. 24, 2010.
