Miss Philippines-Earth celebrates Earth hour with Project Noel

Miss Philippines-Earth strengthens her advocacy to Earth with their recent work:

The reigning ambassadors of Ms. Philippines-Earth are now coming to a close.... and is now transferring their crowns to the next deserving ambassadors of Earth...  but they will not pass down their crown without leaving their mark in history.... and making their legacy to Miss Philippines Earth, led by reigning Miss Philippines-Earth, Ms. Sandra Seifert, together with the new batch of beauties vying for Miss Philippines Earth 2010.

The Miss Philippines-Earth Batch of 2009 in cooperation with Carousel Productions, Inc., SM Cinema, Miss Earth Foundation and Manila Water premiered PROJECT NOEL, a environmental advocacy short film on March 24, 2010 at Cinema 1, The Podium. This film aims to teach the value of resource management and instill in each one of us our responsibility towards Mother Earth. Jairus Aquino is Noel, a young boy who’s fond of gathering waste materials, taking pride in finding ways how to recycle them, inspired by his father, played by Jojit Lorenzo, a garbage collector. He is a scholar in a private school and soon engages in a school art project about the environment in a bid to represent the school in a nationwide contest. Along with his wealthy  groupmates played by Yong-An Chiu, Mark Joshua Sarayot and Sophia Baars, they embark to create a project that tackles the threats againts the earth. Peachy Veneracion and the titlists of Miss Philippines-Earth 2009 join the cast in unravelling a story of friendship, teamwork and realization of the urgency to act...NOW.

This short film is the legacy of the outgoing batch of Miss Philippines-Earth as they turnover the torch to new set of winners during the 10th year search for beauties for a cause on April 25, 2010. Since 2006, the reigning queens come up with their own projects. Batch 2006 came up with a book entitled Bakawan, published by Adarna Books and is now being used in the Bright Minds Read Program of the Department of Education and Philippine Daily Inquirer Read Alongs. Batch 2007 produced their own reusable bags which they called I Love ME (Mother Earth, Miss Earth) bags to help reduce the use of plastics. Batch 2008 embarked on a 20,000 tree planting challenge and successfully planted thousands of trees in Albay and Zamboanga. Aside from their numerous accomplishments during their reign like conducting school and community awareness campaigns, Ondoy relief operations, tree planting and clean-up efforts, they decided to produce something concrete which can be used by individuals and organizations as an educational tool in sending the important messages across. The beauty queens themselves took on technical roles to make this production possible; from conceptualization to leg work during the shoot day itself.

This milestone in Miss Earth Foundation history was celebrated with everyone who made this project possible including partners and communities. This film will be distributed all over the Philippines and translated in English for Miss Earth Organizations across the globe. Apart from the school and community tours which this film will be extensively used, the group is proud to announce its meaningful partnership with SM Cinemas to have the short film shown in their cinemas nationwide during the Green Film Festival.

Project Noel is co-produced with Marcus Phoenix Media Productions under the direction of Jon Steffan Ballesteros.
