“MORTDECAI” Star Johnny Depp fondly recalls Manila

When asked in a recent interview by ABS-CBN’s US correspondent Yong Chavez in line with the movie action comedy “Mortdecai” about Manila, Johnny Depp shared that he found the city beautiful after they’ve traversed the city whenever they can while shooting in remote forests in the Philippines for the movie “Platoon.”  See the interview here http://www.abs-cbnnews.com/video/entertainment/01/21/15/excl-anong-alaala-ni-johnny-depp-sa-maynila

“Mortdecai” seamlessly fuses action and comedy into one exciting ride directed by David Koepp and
action scenes were choreographed by U.K.’s busiest stunt coordinators and second-unit action directors, Rowley Irlam who also coordinated action sequences for blockbuster movies such as “Guardians of the Galaxy,” “The Legend of Hercules,” “Thor: Dark World,”” Captain Phillips,” “Prometheus” and “Skyfall,” for which he received a SAG Award® for Outstanding Action Performance in a Motion Picture.

TAYLOR KINNEY, THE OTHER MAN IN “THE OTHER WOMAN”

Comedic talent Leslie Mann plays Kate, happily married to Mark (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) ...or so she thinks. It turns out that her husband has been conducting an affair with Carly, (Cameron Diaz) a successful lawyer. The women strike up an unlikely friendship, before making another discovery: this lying rogue has in fact been three-timing them—with the young and very sexy Amber (Kate Upton) in “The Other Woman.”

In the movie, the three plot revenge, and in the process learn about themselves and what they really want in life.  The three women don’t appear to have much in common, other than the philandering womanizer who has been tricking them. They become great pals, however, and decide to teach the lying Mark a few lessons to prove that cheating will not work. But their journey goes way beyond straightforward revenge.  From director Nick Cassavetes, the hilarious film is an original take on friendship and relationships.

GIRL POWER IN “THE OTHER WOMAN”

Girl Power in "The Other Woman"

The ultimate Girls Night Out comedy movie, “The Other Woman” stars a powerhouse cast of women led by Cameron Diaz, Leslie Mann, Kate Upton and Nicki Minaj.  In the movie, a woman learns that she’s part of a love triangle, so she teams up with the spurned wife in order to exact revenge on the cheating husband.

An unlikely friendship is developed between three women to bring down a cheating man, but ultimately become “the weirdest (and best) friends ever.”   United by getting even, they ultimately discover it’s not about getting back at the guy - it’s about sticking together, set in the scenic and aspirational backdrop of The Hamptons in New York and Cayman Islands.

Dying to get to the bottom of things with their cheating man played by Nikolaj Coster-Waldau,  the fashion is an equally to-die-for must haves designed by Patricia Field, one of the world’s foremost costume designers who also dressed the lead stars in “Sex and the City.”

“The Other Woman” opens May 7 in theaters from 20th Century Fox to be distributed by Warner Bros.

MOVIE ON COMING OUT IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED BY THE MTRCB: “GEOGRAPHY CLUB”

“Geography Club” comes in at a most opportune time when the world now has learned to embrace that being different is no taboo after all.  Based on Brent Hartinger’s acclaimed, best-selling young adult novel, “Geography Club” is a fast, fresh coming-of-age movie that tells a real and powerful story unfolding in every high school around the country – a story of kids hiding their true identities in plain sight, even as they feverishly pursue their hearts’ desires.

The MTRCB, local (Phils.’) censors board gave it a PG rating (viewers below 13 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or supervising adult) and highly commends the movie as “Sweet and sensitive coming out, coming of age movie based on the first novel of the young adult series/play of the same name.  Nuanced direction and performances make this a must-see and highly recommended.”

Teens wanted in "Love Bite"

Teens Wanted in "Love Bite"

A fresh twist on the definitive monster comedy movie, “Love Bite” is about to let loose its fangs to prey on the flesh of young and healthy teenage boys in the sleepy small town of Rainmouth.  Starring Ed Speelers (“Eragon”) and Jessica Szohr (“Gossip Girl,” “The Internship”), “Love Bite” finds Jamie (Speelers) along with his teenage friends living in their putrescent seaside town looking for more opportunities to get laid.  But in a town in which everyone knows everyone else, that’s easier said than done.

Things for Jamie have a habit of getting complicated. So when he meets Juliana (Szohr) – a smart, funny and absurdly beautiful girl from out of town – things quickly get, well, complicated.   Jamie starts to believe that Juliana might be a werewolf since she arrived at the same time several of his mates started to disappear.   All Jamie knows is that werewolves target virgins, which, he thinks, is probably the only reason she’s interested in him.

SANDRA BULLOCK IMPROVS IN “THE HEAT”

Academy Award winner Sandra Bullock stars in “The Heat” and tries on improv comedy for the first time under director Paul Feig.

Bullock stars as Sarah Ashburn, an FBI agent hoping for a promotion and high-tails it from her home base in New York City to Boston, to help solve the mystery behind several murders.  Standing in Ashburn’s way is a hard-hitting Boston police officer, Shannon Mullins played by Melissa McCarthy, who’s not happy that the FBI – especially the stuck-up Ashburn -- is treading on her turf.  Ashburn is determined to wrestle the case away from Mullins, but the disheveled, foul-mouthed, in-your-face cop is a formidable adversary.  They’ll soon discover they have more in common than they ever thought possible, including their misfit status and complementary skill sets.

Turn up "The Heat"!

Turn up "The Heat"

Budding comedy scribe Katie Dippold loved cop movies growing up.  Now a grown up, her love for cop movies continues and had successfully penned the latest Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy starrer “The Heat” directed by Paul Feig.   The estrogen-filled comedy features Sandra Bullock as the uptight FBI agent Sarah Ashburn and Melissa McCarthy as the unorthodox Boston police officer paired together to hunt down a ruthless drug lord.

“The Heat” is the first produced screenplay by Katie Dippold, who has written for television shows like Parks and Recreation and MadTV.  The film was born from Dippold’s love of buddy-cop movies.  She has many favorites, but singles out the 1986 comedy-action film Running Scared, starring Billy Crystal and Gregory Hines as wisecracking Chicago street cops.  “I’ve always enjoyed those kinds of movies,” says Dippold, who recently signed a deal to write another comedy for director Paul Feig.  “The characters and actors always seemed like they were having so much fun.”

Dippold’s love of buddy-cop films provided the foundation for a script that ultimately transcended the genre with outrageous humor and heart.  Feig sparked to the script, calling it “one of the funniest I’ve ever read.”

ACTION AND COMEDY SIZZLE IN “THE HEAT”

 "The Heat" is on!!

Director Paul Feig reinvigorates the buddy cop genre by pairing Oscar-winner Sandra Bullock and breakout star Melissa McCarthy as law enforcers with wildly different styles in “The Heat.”

Set in Boston, the movie follows Sarah Ashburn (Bullock), a rigid FBI agent forced to team up with Shannon Mullins (McCarthy), a brash undercover Boston street cop to track a ruthless drug lord.   Ashburn is a straight-laced, patient, methodical investigator known for her excellence, while Mullins is very short fused and none has ever had a partner or a long time friend.  This wildly dysfunctional duo must try to catch this high-powered criminal without killing one another in the process.
