The balance between life and death was disturbed in the horror film “The Other Side of the Door” when an inconsolable mother, Maria (Sarah Wayne Callies) disobeyed a sacred ritual when she opened the door that separates the living and the dead in a desperate move to talk to her son who died in an accident.
Alexandre Aja, known for horror genre films such as “The Hills Have Eyes,” “Horns’ and “Piranha 3D” produces another yet spine-tingling thriller in “The Other Side of the Door” where a mother who lost her son and can’t bear to lose him has done something terrible that is about to destroy her family just to get him back.
“The Other Side of the Door” explores on the forbidden in Asian cultures that have existed thousands of years. In the movie, a family lives an idyllic existence abroad until a tragic accident takes the life of their young son. The inconsolable mother learns of an ancient ritual that will bring him back to say a final goodbye. She travels to an ancient temple, where a door serves as a mysterious portal between two worlds. However, when she disobeys a sacred warning about never opening that door, she upsets the balance between life and death.
