PONY X Don’t Blame The Kids: Born Out Of Passion

Born in 1972 in the streets of New York, PONY, more than just a sneaker brand, has always symbolized the ethos of a city that’s built on dreams, grit and hustle.
Over the years, the brand has displayed unfaltering dedication to stay true to its original values, while at the same time constantly innovating itself through creative collaborations, infusing its signature Brooklyn attitude as it engages disruptors across the globe.
Taking keen notice of the creativity and dynamism in the region, Pony is now launching a highly anticipated all-Asian streetwear collaboration series that stretches from Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, and for the first time, the Philippines.

Breaking new ground, PONY and Don’t Blame The Kids recently unveiled their limited collection that everyone has been talking about. The collaboration between the two brands goes deeper than their merch.  With both brands sharing underground beginnings, the PONYxDBTK collection is born from passion, authenticity, and a true hustler attitude. It’s meant to inspire everyone to start small while dreaming BIG; never give up; and to stay true to who you are.
“Five years in, and now to be the first Filipino street wear brand to collaborate with a global sneaker label and participate in such a huge  movement, it’s unbelievable for us.” DBTK co-founders enthused.
At the public launch held at Dulo MNL in Poblacion, Makati last November 18, the event was more than just a venue to pick up or cop a pair of the collab. The place got lit with live performances from indie bands and solo artists like IV of Spades, 16-year old Shanti Dope, Baryo Berde’s Migo Señires, Marc Mamuric, and Rjay Ty together with Pope Fictionand OJ River of the Bawal Clan closed the show with an impressive performance. The crowd were also entertained by DJs Marxx and Alwyn Cruz, who are both PONY ambassadors.
“Attention to details is expressed in this collaboration…every component of the shoe was scrutinized and polished to perfection. Everything that inspired us since the very beginning are all coming together. It feels so surreal”, Vince Javier, co-founder of DBTK, expressed.
“Without a doubt, hustle and will is what this collaboration is all about. Both PONY and DBTK are underdogs who make the most of what they have and utilize their resources to reap a bigger harvest”, Javier added.
This unprecedented collaboration features two of PONY’s most iconic silhouettes the classic City Wings 85’, and perennial favorite Shooter 78’.
Steeped in heritage yet given a fresh, contemporary perspective with artistic nods to both brands’ roots, the PONY x DBTK collaboration sneakers play subtlety and bold statements against each other in its design. The sneakers are made with premium leathers in signature contrasting black/white colorways. PONY and DBTK logos can be found printed, one on each footbed, while a custom leather shoe chain hangs from the top eyelet.
The City Wings is composed of  premium black textured leather and suede uppers, a white leather Pony chevron, and classic gum sole bottoms. Each heel tab features a tonal embossed PONY or DBTK logo on either side.
The Shooter is designed with buttery suede leather in deep black and a subtle perforated chevron pattern. Heel tabs feature the classic DBTK character logo as a throwback to the brand’s earliest days.
All collaboration pairs come in an exclusive PONY x DBTK shoebox showcasing the New York and Manila cityscapes— an homage to the brands’ birthplace.
Definitely one of the highly anticipated projects not just both for the Product of New York (PONY) & Don’t Blame The Kids (DBTK), but also to those who have been supporting the movement, campaign, and purpose of both brands. A first of its kind, but we certainly hope that this won’t be the last and instead pave the way to many more triumphs.
