Smart makes it easier to enjoy PH’s Fastest 5G via Waze Pins

 

Leading mobile services provider Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) is making it simpler for subscribers to locate the nearest Smart 5G site as it becomes the first Philippine telco to introduce Smart 5G pins on the social navigation app, Waze.

Through this groundbreaking feature, Smart 5G pins will conveniently show up on the Waze app so subscribers may know if they are on a Smart 5G-covered area, or close to a Smart 5G site where they can access and enjoy next-level speeds on their Smart 5G-certified smartphone.

This unique feature is now available for Waze users in Metro Manila and key areas in the provinces of Aklan, Bulacan, Cavite, Cebu, Davao del Sur, Iloilo, Laguna, and Pampanga, with more locations to be added soon.

Smart LTE speeds Continue To Outpace Competition

PLDT wireless arm Smart Communications Inc (Smart) has further strengthened its lead in LTE download speeds nationwide and in all major regions in the country, while posting a significant improvement in 4G/LTE coverage as well, according to the latest study released by mobile analytics company OpenSignal.

The OpenSignal State of Mobile Networks: Philippines report, which covers the months of November to January and is available on their website, showed that Smart LTE download speeds led across all measured areas: National Capital Region (13.04 Mbps vs 8.57 Mbps), North Central Luzon (11.59 Mbps vs 6.34 Mbps), South Luzon (11.66 Mbps vs 7.03 Mbps), Visayas (13.49 Mbps vs 7.37 Mbps), and Mindanao (14.42 Mbps vs 7.38 Mbps).

The study also found that Smart’s 4G/LTE availability also jumped by nearly 20% to 59.68% from 39.96% a year ago.

Smart is also ahead in terms of latency, a metric that measures a network’s responsiveness, OpenSignal measured Smart’s 4G latency at 47.21ms, quicker than the competition’s 60.7ms. Latency, measured in milliseconds, is the time it takes data to make a round trip through the network. A lower score in this metric is a sign of a more responsive network, OpenSignal said.

Mobile data speeds across the country continued to improve as the LTE service of PLDT wireless subsidiary Smart Communications (Smart) set the pace nationwide in the fourth quarter of 2017, according to a survey of the wireless coverage research firm OpenSignal.

The OpenSignal survey, which measured the performance of operators in major Asian markets, showed that the average Smart LTE download speed across the Philippines was 12.7 Mbps, up 38.5% from the same period a year ago, and well ahead of its competitor’s 7.5 Mbps.

Good news for Smart customers: the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X, as well as the Samsung Galaxy Note 8, Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+, work best with Smart’s improved LTE network.

A review of their published specifications show that Apple and Samsung’s latest flagship handsets will work on Smart’s LTE frequencies, allowing users of these devices to take full advantage of the LTE network that Smart is currently rolling out.

OpenSignal Cited Smart LTE As The Fastest Internet In The Country

Amid its continued network roll-out, PLDT wireless subsidiary Smart Communications, Inc. maintained its lead in LTE speeds nationwide, according to the latest report by wireless coverage research firm OpenSignal.

OpenSignal also cited a “big increase” in the availability of Smart LTE compared to six months ago, improving by 12 percentage points to 52.71%.

“Smart held onto OpenSignal’s 4G speed award with an average download of 10.6 Mbps, increasing slightly over the last six months," OpenSignal said in its report released yesterday. “By virtue of the big increase in its availability score, Smart was able to deliver its faster LTE connections to customers more often,” it added.

Smart Improved LTE Speeds, Coverage To Enhance Metro Manila Customers’ Mobile Data Experience

Customers of PLDT wireless subsidiary Smart Communications (Smart) can look forward to improved mobile data services in Metro Manila as network upgrades continue in the country’s primary urban center.

Internal tests conducted recently show that the average download speed on Smart’s LTE service is 21.5 Mbps in North NCR areas covering Quezon City, Caloocan, Valenzuela, Novaliches, Malabon, Mandaluyong, San Juan, Pasig, Manila, Makati, Pasay, and Marikina. An average of 14.4 Mbps was reached in South NCR areas Muntinlupa, Las Piñas, Taguig and Parañaque.

These figures were bolstered by results of the latest J.P.Morgan Asia Network Quality study, which found that LTE availability in Metro Manila has increased from 49 percent at the start of the year to 63 percent in the latest study.
