This is Sparta: How to survive the world's most brutal race

Even the most seasoned triathlete will falter in an obstacle course as brutal as the Spartan Race without ample preparation.

Across rugged terrain stretching three to over 13 miles, the Spartan Race sends contenders plowing through a series of 20 to 30 grueling challenges including mud, fire, and barbed wire to push mind and body past the limit. For every hardened Spartan, the race is no mere event; it is a way of life.

"Spartan Race is 50 percent physical and 50 percent mental—physical training is going to get you there, but it’s designed to test you mentally,” shared Michael Reyes, Director of Spartan Race Philippines.

Spartan: Ultimate Team Challenge Finale Airs June 3 on RTL CBS Extreme

Healthy living often seems like an impossible dream for a number of reasons—from having a physical condition to just being too busy with work and family. While these are enough to dissuade many from adopting healthier lifestyles, Natalie Dau and Holleigh Mason of Urban Remedy Asia in Singapore believe that anyone can overcome their limitations to achieve great and better health—even proving it by daring some of the world’s most grueling races.
Natalie Dau, a 45-year-old fitness guru, was once diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis and deep vein thrombosis a few years ago. While the former causes joint inflammation, the latter is a life-threatening vein condition in the legs that not only lead to painful leg swelling, but also pulmonary embolism or the blockage of arteries in the lungs.

Filipinos abroad are known for their talent and hard work, and many serve as living proof that anything can be attained through sheer determination. Such is the inspiration brought by Xenos and Claire Soto two of many other Filipinos who’ve raised homegrown values in a foreign land to achieve success not just for themselves, but also for others.
The husband and wife moved to Singapore in 2008 during the global recession. During these trying times, challenges came to their lives as soon as they moved. Equipped with high hopes and dreams, the couple went ahead and did what they felt was necessary to make things work.
