Essilor celebrates better vision with World Sight Day

Since the outbreak began in 2020, people have been spending a major part of their days looking at their screens, especially as schools and work have shifted virtually. As a result, there have been increased cases of eye strain, eye fatigue and myopia progression. This year, Essilor celebrates better vision with World Sight Day and their mission to help everyone in the world to “see more, be more and live life to its fullest”

“Our sense of sight is essential to our day to day living. But with increased screen time during the lockdown we were exposed to UV and harmful lights, we have pushed our eyes to the limits which may have led us to experience eye strain and eye fatigue more often,” said Ms. Jinky Navo-Palteng, Marketing Manager of Essilor Philippines.  The celebration of World Sight Day reminds everyone to visit their eye doctor regularly and good eye health habits.”

During a media presscon via Zoom, Dr. Anthony Ayson, Essilor Philippines Lens Consultant, gave insightful presentations and discussed about eye health and how Essilor has improved lives with better eye sight through its various brands like Varilux and Crizal.

Protect your vision while working from home

Due to the pandemic, millions of people all over the world are working from home, which means longer hours in front of computers. Add to that the frequent use of phones and other devices for entertainment and other purposes. While it is somehow necessary, this may be harmful to your eyes.

For starters, staring at a screen reduces a person’s blink rate, which is key to moistening the eyes and keeping it comfortable. Also, overexposure to blue light, which is the light emitted from digital screens, may pose some eye-related health risks. It has been shown that excessive blue light can increase eye strain, cause headaches and blurry vision, interrupt sleep cycles, affect hormones, and potentially do serious damage to long-term eye health. Fortunately, there are different types of lenses that can address different vision problems.

Caring for our most overused body sense

The eyes are perhaps the most misused, ignored and overused part of the body. We use it while working in front of the computer, staying connected throughout the day via our mobile phones and tablets and even while entertaining ourselves watching movies and videos. Until we feel there’s something wrong, we tend to ignore our eyes because they are just there.

Now, more than ever, our eyes suffer even more abuse. According to Dr. Joy Go, assistant vice president for marketing and merchandising of  Ideal Vision Center (IVC), Because of all the electronic gadgets we use continuously throughout the day IVC deemed it necessary to upgrade its campaign from combating computer vision syndrome to digital vision syndrome.

Understanding age-related vision problems

Celebrate National Sight Saving Month by learning more about age-related vision problems. Essilor, the world’s leading ophthalmic optics company, shares common age-related vision changes and tips on how to minimize the risks:

Blurred vision. Reading printed materials can become less clear, in part because the lens in your eyes becomes less flexible as you age. Objects can also appear hazy or out of focus at certain distances. When this happens, take time to rest your eyes for a few seconds. It also helps to exercise your eye muscles by regularly blinking.

Dry eyes. Aging also causes our bodies to produce fewer tears. Some people experience a burning sensation, stinging or eye discomfort related to dry eyes. Use artificial tears as needed throughout the day for comfort or best consult your eye doctor for prescription dry eyes medication.
