Johnny Arcilla and Marian Capadocia Smash their Way to bag PPTO Championship Titles

Peugeot Philippines recently crowned its first ever Peugeot Philippines Tennis Open (PPTO) champions after six (6) months of tennis action in five (5) qualifying legs around the country. The PPTO champions will experience a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to watch the French Open (Roland-Garros) live this May 2016, as well as visit the brand’s headquarters in Paris.

Philippines’ No. 3 Johnny Arcilla triumphed over Roel Capangpangan in a landslide victory with the score of 6-1, 6-0, 6-0.

Meanwhile, top seed Marian Capadocia bagged the women’s singles championship, beating Clarice Patrimonio. The first set was a tight duel between the two, but Marian dominated the second set, sealing the win with the score of 7-5, 6-1. Marian Capadocia was the women’s singles champion during the Manila leg.

Johnny Arcilla continued his winning streak. After a heart-stopping two-set showdown, Johnny, together with Philippines’ No. 4 Patrick John Tierro, beat his younger brother Joseph and his partner Kim Saraza to become the PPTO Men’s Doubles Champions. The Arcilla-Tierro duo attributed teamwork and passion as key factors to bagging  the crown.

The Women’s Doubles title was extra special for Marian Capadocia, who teamed up with her sister Jade to defeat Marinel Rudas and Edilyn Balanga in the finals. Victory didn’t come easy for the Capadocia sisters, however, as the exhilarating match lasted three sets. In the end, Marian sealed the win for their team with the score of 6-3, 6-3, 10-6.

“Winning both the singles and doubles championship feels great as my sister (Jella) and I normally don’t play together,” Marian Capadocia mused. “Going to Paris is a dream come true for my sister and we’re so excited to watch the French Open and see the City of Lights.”

The Peugeot Philippines Tennis Open aimed to identify and empower gifted tennis players in the country, and give these athletes the opportunity to be recognized on both national and international levels.

“We are very proud of the results of the first ever Peugeot Philippines Tennis Open. We met a lot of world-class and passionate Filipino tennis players throughout the country, and we were delighted to give them a platform to show off their skills in the court. We are excited to take the champions to France, and are hopeful that their French Open experience will further fuel their dreams to someday play in international leagues, particularly in Roland-Garros, and become renowned tennis players themselves,” Glen Dasig, Peugeot Philippines president said.

Aside from the trip to France, the champions will also receive cash prizes from Peugeot Philippines, Total and Smart, and giveaways from tournament sponsor, Wilson.

The PPTO 2015-16 is only the beginning of Peugeot’s efforts to support tennis in the country. “Peugeot has had a long relationship with tennis, and Peugeot Philippines will continue that legacy and extend that same commitment to our local tennis community. We look forward to organizing the next PPTO later this year,” Dasig added.
