Walk the World - Support the World Food Program

 END HUNGER: WALK THE WORLD
Take a step towards ending hunger with
WFP National Ambassador Against Hunger KC Concepcion
at SM Mall of Asia, on May 29, 5:00AM

PHILIPPINES – “Karon pa jud ko nabusog, Ma’am!” (This is my first time to feel full, Ma’am!), said Shiela Mae Gascon, 9, a grade three student, after eating a hot nutritious meal through the support of the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) for Tugar Elementary School in Kauswagan Municipality in Lanao del Norte.  Tugar Elementary School is just one of the 300 schools that WFP assists with its Emergency School Feeding programme in the conflict-affected provinces of Central Mindanao to help get children into schools and out of hunger.

Hunger and malnutrition are the biggest threats to global health worldwide, and are responsible for a third of all deaths in children under the age of five in the developing world.

Let our voice be heard!  Let us join hands for a good cause.  We fight to end hunger in the world, one step at a time, closer to our goal.  There may be obstacles on the way, but determination, wholehearted volunteers, generous sponsors and the private sector, together with the The World Food Program will make that difference.

This year, thousands of people around the globe are preparing to join WFP and its major corporate partners, TNT, Unilever and DSM, in a walk to raise awareness and money to feed hungry children in some of the poorest countries in the world on May 29, Sunday.

WFP and its partners are passionate about taking action on this important issue and believe that everyone can help by joining Walk the World Pilipinas as a step towards ending hunger.

WHERE: SM Mall of Asia, IMAX Parking lot
WHEN: May 29, 2011, Sunday, 5:00-10:00AM
This year’s Walk the World, which is set to be bigger than the previous years, is open to walkers and runners who are passionate about fighting hunger.  In addition to the traditional 2-km walk, there will be a 5-km run for enthusiasts, both male and female, and a competitive 10-km group run. Proceeds from the event will support approximately 80,000 school children in the provinces of Maguindanao, Lanao del Norte and Lanao del Sur.

It costs WFP just 10 pesos to provide a nutritious meal to a child at school.  School feeding programmes also give parents an extra incentive to keep their children in school, and help to lay a healthy foundation for a better future for the young.

If you can’t join the walk in person, you can still get involved at http://wfp.org/walktheworld with photos, videos and donations.
WFP (World Food Program) is the world's largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide. Each year, on average, WFP feeds more than 90 million people in more than 70 countries.

TNT is a global mail and express service company dedicated to provide delivery solutions to its customers in more than 200 countries. Since 2002, it has committed to support WFP in its life saving effort. To date TNT has invested €46 million in the partnership in the form of hands-on support in emergencies, knowledge transfer projects to help WFP to be more efficient and effective, and advocacy and fundraising activities. On top of this, TNT employees have raised an additional €9 million for WFP’s School Feeding Projects. TNT founded Walk the World in 2003 as an engagement event for its employees.

Unilever works to create a better future every day.  We help people feel good, look good and get more out of life with brands and services that are good for them and good for others. It is one of the world’s leading suppliers of fast moving consumer goods.

DSM is a life sciences and materials sciences company. In April 2007, DSM and WFP joined forces to ensure the nutritional needs of WFP beneficiaries are met through the creation of cost-effective micronutrient interventions to improve the general food basket.

Thank you also to Pizza Hut Philippines and Taco Bell Philippines for being a major contributor to the World Food Program, and kudos to their endorser Mr. Diether Ocampo, for his dedication to help the World Food Program as well.
