“X-men: Days of Future Past” dominates Philippine Box-Office Opening Weekend

MUTANTS RULE AT P175 MILLION 

 It was an epic battle that waged epic receipts at the Phils.box-office as the biggest ensemble in the X-Men universe, “X-Men: Days of Future Past” bowed at number 1 in the Phils. Box-office on its opening weekend (May 21 – 25) with P175 million haul from almost 400 screens nationwide. 

Helmed by Brian Singer, “X-Men: Days of Future Past” has dominated the local market with about 84% over-all market share and is now the Biggest Fox Film to open this year so far.   Likewise, the movie is now the Biggest Opening Weekend for a Fox film all-time and the Biggest Opening Weekend for the franchise.

Quicksilver: Catch him if you can in "X-Men: Days of Future Past" (3D)

“X-Men: Days of Future Past”  features more mutants than have ever been on screen together before for a massive adventure launching us from an apocalyptic future back into the world of the First Class team. In Days of Future Past, a years-long world conflict between humans and mutants has taken its toll on their numbers, and now a scant few remain, including Professor Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart), Erik “Magneto” Lehnsherr (Ian McKellen), Kitty Pryde (Ellen Page), and Wolverine (Hugh Jackman). Driven to near extinction by the technological terrors unleashed by Bolivar Trask (Peter Dinklage), the team forms a desperate plan: time travel.

Using Kitty Pryde’s powers, Wolverine’s consciousness will be sent back into his younger self in the 1970s, where he’ll have to track down and help the First Class versions of the characters in order to stop Trask. But that will be even harder than it sounds, as in this era, the X-Men team is just as disparate, with Professor Xavier (James McAvoy) and the rest either at odds or in a low ebb. Can the younger versions of the mutants save their future?

For years, the X-Men have faced many threats from within and without their ranks, but in “Days of Future Past,” they’re dealing with one of the worst. The films have a history of mankind misunderstanding mutants, but in the upcoming film, scientist Bolivar Trask (played by Peter Dinklage) begins to rally the world against our heroes, and creates the monstrous, massive Sentinel robots to help tackle what he perceives as the mutant problem.
