Veteran Philippine Netters Reign Supreme at the PPTO Manila leg


It was a battle between tennis veterans at the Peugeot Philippines Tennis Open (PPTO) Manila leg last February 1-7, 2016, at the Valle Verde Country Club. Thirty-seven year-old netter Rolando Ruel, Jr. decisively defeated Patrick John Tierro with the score of 6-2, 6-1, to bag the PPTO Manila leg’s men’s singles title. Ruel is currently the Philippines’ No. 5 player, while Tierro is the Ateneo de Manila University men’s tennis team head coach and Philippines’ no. 4 netter.

Arcilla, Espinosa Rule Cebu Leg of the Peugeot Philippines Tennis Open


Johnny Arcilla proved why he is Philippine Tennis Association Men’s Singles Number 2 after defeating Number 3 Francis Casey Alcantara to emerge as the men’s singles champion of the Peugeot Philippines Tennis Open Cebu leg held recently at the Cebu Country Club.

Despite bowing to Alcantara in the first set at 4-6, Arcilla bounced back with a 7-5, 6-4 finish to clinch one of the last few slots of the PPTO National Finals in March.

Meanwhile, Alcantara, who admitted experiencing cramps on his right leg, gained his momentum with doubles partner Marc Norman Enriquez to stop Arcilla and Jon Godfrey Seno from gaining another title. During the deciding set, Alcantara delivered a forehand volley to tie the game at 9-9 before winning the set at 11-9. The Alcantara-Enriquez tandem won the title after a 6-3, 1-6, 11-9 performance.

PH’s Top Tennis Players Face Off in PPTO Nueva Ecija Leg


The Peugeot Philippines Tennis Open (PPTO) Nueva Ecija leg recently saw some of the country’s best tennis players battle it out to bag the championship crowns at the Center Court Tennis Club in Cabanatuan City.

Current Philippine Tennis Association’s (PHILTA) Women’s Singles No. 6 Edilyn Balanga faced No. 7 Marinel Rudas in the championship match of the third regional qualifier leg of the PPTO. Balanga emerged triumphant, 6-3, 6-4.

Siso Siblings Dominate the PPTO Cagayan de Oro leg

Cebu’s pride dominated the first leg of the Peugeot Philippines Tennis Open (PPTO) held in Cagayan De Oro (CDO) last October 12 to 18, 2015.  Siblings Bernardine and Sally Mae Siso, former varsity tennis players of the University of San Carlos-Cebu, beat their foes to win the men’s and women’s divisions, respectively, bagging a ticket to play in the PPTO National Finals in February 2016.

Twenty-two year-old Bernardine edged out 44-year-old Danilo Sajonia at the Don Gregorio Pelaez Sports Complex with 6-3, 6-1 victory.  Meanwhile, his sister Sally Mae outclassed Janelle Carmela Llavore of CDO with a score of 6-3, 6-1 in a match that ran for 85 minutes.  Llavore bowed to the Cebuana despite registering break serves in the 1st set and aces during the 2nd set.

The Road to Roland-Garros Begins at the Peugeot Philippines Tennis Open

Peugeot Philippines announces today the first ever Peugeot Philippines Tennis Open (PPTO), a nationwide tournament aimed to discover Filipino tennis champions who may, one day, represent the country in international competitions.   

 

Since 1984, Peugeot, one of the oldest and largest selling automotive brands in the world, has been a driving force of the prestigious Roland-Garros, otherwise known as The French Open.  Peugeot has also been supporting other prestigious tennis tournaments such as the Rio Open held in Brazil and the Barcelona Open in Spain.
