Joshua Pacio submits Rene Catalan to retain One Strawweight World Title

In the main event, Joshua "The Passion" Pacio of the Philippines turned in a dominant performance, submitting compatriot Rene "D' Challenger" Catalan in the second round to retain his ONE Strawweight World Championship. Pacio survived an early submission scare from Catalan to impose his will on the ground. In the second round, Pacio stuffed a takedown from Catalan and worked his way into mount, before securing a masterful arm-triangle choke, leaving the challenger with no choice but to tap out.

Joshua Pacio and Yosuke Saruta meet at One : Eternal Glory open workout and face off


The largest global sports media property in Asian history, ONE Championship™ (ONE), recently held the official ONE: ETERNAL GLORY Open Workout & Face-Off at the Syena Martial Arts Center on 16 January. In attendance were ONE Championship athletes set to participate in the blockbuster card at Istora Senayan on 19 January.

Reigning ONE Strawweight World Champion Joshua “The Passion” Pacio of Baguio City, Philippines and ONE World Title Challenger Yosuke “Tobizaru” Saruta of Japan graced fans and media in attendance with a world-class martial arts skills demonstration.

ONE Athletes Priscilla Hertati Lumban Gaol, Puja Tomar, Stefer Rahardian, Robin Catalan, Anthony Engelen, and Kwon Won Il followed suit with their skills demonstrations alongside their respective coaches.

For the second time in his young career, Filipino strawweight contender Joshua “The Passion” Pacio will be challenging for the ONE Strawweight World Championship. 

At ONE: CONQUEST OF HEROES on 22 September in Jakarta, Indonesia, Pacio will once again share the cage with reigning strawweight titleholder Yoshitaka “Nobita” Naito from Japan to determine who gets the right to call himself the king of ONE Championship’s 56.7-kilogram division.

Joshua Pacio’s road to redemption begins at ONE: LEGENDS OF THE WORLD


Ever since falling short in his bid to capture the ONE Strawweight World Championship title over a year ago, Filipino standout Joshua “The Passion” Pacio was a man on a mission to get a rematch with division kingpin Yoshitaka Naito.

After redeeming himself by notching a split decision victory over former champion Dejdamrong Sor Amnuaysirichoke this past March, it seemed that Pacio was one bout away from securing a second encounter with Naito when he faced Hayato Suzuki on the main card of ONE: KINGS & CONQUERORS in August.

​​ Joshua Pacio happy to be back in Macao, vows to showcase stellar performance in return


Filipino standout Joshua “The Passion” Pacio had a memorable trip to Macao a year ago when he competed at ONE Championship’s inaugural live event in the Chinese suburb known as “Oyster City.”

The 21-year-old native of Baguio City, Benguet competed on the undercard of ONE: HEROES OF THE WORLD, where he defeated gritty Thai grappler Kritsada Kongsrichai by way of first-round submission.

Proving that Team Lakay fighters are not isolated in the striking department, Pacio effortlessly took Kongsrichai down to the mat and fastened a rear-naked choke to force his Thai foe to tap at the 4:37 mark of the first round.

Joshua Pacio willing to wait for right time to vie for world title again


If he secures an impressive triumph in his upcoming bout, Filipino standout Joshua “The Passion” Pacio might place himself on the verge of another shot at the ONE Strawweight World Championship title.

However, the 21-year-old native of Baguio City, Benguet revealed that he is not in a hurry and would rather take the long road to a second championship crack than prematurely vie for the gold-plated strap.

After nearly capturing the ONE Strawweight World Championship belt five months ago, the road back to earning another title shot commences for Joshua Pacio as the highly-touted Filipino fighter is set to duke it out with former world titleholder Dejdamrong Sor Amnuaysirichoke.

Both men are scheduled to face each other on the undercard of ONE: WARRIOR KINGDOM, which takes place at the 12,000-capacity Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand on Saturday, 11 March.

Dejdamrong Sor Amnuaysirichoke is fully aware of Joshua Pacio's outstanding reputation inside the ONE Championship cage as both men are scheduled to face each other on the undercard of ONE: WARRIOR KINGDOM in Bangkok, Thailand on 11 March.

Pacio holds an impressive 8-1 professional mixed martial arts (MMA) record and is one of the most highly-regarded strawweight prospects in the Asian region today.

Pacio keen on getting rematch with Naito if he wins over Thai foe


Filipino fighter Joshua Pacio knows that if he plays his cards right against Thai combatant Dejdamrong Sor Amnuaysirichoke, he will get an opportunity to challenge Japanese veteran Yoshitaka Naito for the ONE Strawweight World Championship title again.

Pacio and Naito crossed paths this past October in the main event of ONE: STATE OF WARRIORS, where the latter had to endure two grueling rounds before he pulled off a come-from-behind victory by submitting the Pinoy prospect with a rear-naked choke in the third frame to keep the gold-plated strap around his waist.

Joshua Pacio promises better version of himself at ONE: WARRIOR KINGDOM


When Joshua Pacio faced Japanese veteran Yoshitaka Naito for the ONE Strawweight World Championship title four months ago, it appeared that capturing the prestigious gold-plated strap was within the Filipino fighter’s reach.

In the opening salvo, Pacio effortlessly stuffed all five takedown attempts of Naito and was clearly getting the best out of the stand-up exchanges.
