Buy 1 Take 1 Cathay Pacific ticket with your HSBC credit card

NOTICE: The Buy-1-Take-1 revised feature of Cathay Pacific will be in effect on August 9, 2011

As I have previously promoted this feature of HSBC credit cards a few months ago.  It has been a whirlwind of events and yes there are indeed long lines at the Cathay Pacific ticketing office in Makati, because of HSBC's promo.  But wait, since its success there has been changes and revisions brought about and this will all happen starting Aug. 9, 2011.

The new revisions states that the feature for the FREE ticket from HSBC and Cathay Pacific is now a "BUY 1 TAKE 1 (FREE 1)" offer.  What do we mean by this?  You have to at least buy 1 round trip ticket for you to be able to use the "TAKE 1" feature of the card.  So is it better for us?  Let's weigh the pros and cons:

PROS:

- you get to spend less for another ticket since a regular roundtrip ticket to HK costs around $200 or so, then you don't have to spend P100k for 2 tickets, just $200 or so for the first ticket then 5 (five) P10K worth of charge slips.

CONS:

- you need to travel in pairs, since you need to claim the same flight for the "TAKE 1"

- the tickets purchased on this feature are non-reroutable, non-refundable, non-transferrable and cannot be cancelled.

And still the same you have to present the corresponding charge slips for whatever destination you would choose to travel, so which is better for you?  You would have to figure that out.  But since they have made the changes, we have nothing else to do but follow.  So for those of you who still have so much charge slips that you want to use for your travels with buying 1 for the FREE 1 offer, then you have til August 8 to claim it.  Happy Trip!!
