Ajinomoto launches Sustansarap, Sustansaya! online nutrition classes for nutritious, delicious and enjoyable meals

Ajinomoto Philippines Corporation (APC) recently launched Sustansarap, Sustansaya!, a series of online nutrition classes and cooking demonstrations, through a Facebook Live on Cookmunity by Ajinomoto page. The project aims to help Filipinos improve their nutrition knowledge and cooking skills with the help of food experts. It is set to run on a quarterly basis on the brand’s official Facebook page.

“We, at Ajinomoto, believe that nutrition education is vital in taking care of our families’ health. However, for most, nutrition information can be intimidating and difficult to understand.  With day-to -day busy schedule of homemakers and budget limitation, we understand that nutrition usually takes a step back when preparing meals. Sustansarap, Sustansya! makes nutrition information fun, simple, accessible and proves that easy, affordable, nutritious, and delicious meals are possible, especially with the help of Ajinomoto products,” said Roann Co, Ajinomoto General Manager of Corporate Planning and Public Relations.

Attention parents! Here’s a science-based way to boost your kids’ appetite in their formative years

Proper nutrition during early childhood is critical for cognitive and physical development. However, getting kids to eat healthy foods– let alone eat during mealtimes– has always been a struggle. They would rather play than eat or complain that they have no appetite. To help parents cope with this dilemma, Ajinomoto Philippines Corporation shares how the science of umami can be used to entice children to eat more during their formative years.

“We understand how difficult mealtimes can be. Children during their development years are usually picky eaters but this is also the time where they need proper nutrition the most,” says Ajinomoto’s Science Communication Executive Deborah S. Fajarda, RND. “As parents spend more time at home, it is ideal to use this opportunity to properly monitor their kids’ eating habits. At Ajinomoto, we hope to empower parents in this pursuit by helping them understand childhood nutrition more.”

Benefits of cutting salt: How MSG helps reduce sodium content in your favorite ulam

Throughout history, the world has used salt to preserve meat and make dishes tastier. It remains a valuable mineral and can be found in all cuisines. For instance, in the Philippines, the majority of delicacies are made richer with sodium-rich condiments or sawsawan (dips) like patis (fish sauce) and bagoong  (fish paste).

Salt is so popular locally that the UN Interagency Task Force found that a Filipino’s daily intake averages 11 grams, more than double the World Health Organization’s recommendation of five grams. Excessive intake of sodium has been found to be one of the risk factors for non-communicable illnesses like cancer, cardiovascular and chronic respiratory diseases, and diabetes.

“With the risks that come with excessive sodium intake, it is recommended that we reduce our salt consumption,” says Deborah Sales, Ajinomoto’s Science Communication Executive. “While it may seem difficult to maintain the palatability of dishes as we cut salt, there is an ingredient that allows us not only to boost the flavor of your favorite dish, but also lessen the need for salt.”
