Students from the University of Perpetual
Help System Dalta-Molino win Intel Digital Pinoy Campus Challenge
The Intel Digital Pinoy Campus Challenge, an
interschool quiz competition among twelve colleges and universities, wrapped up
its two-weekend run in Metro Manila with a thrilling win by the University of
Perpetual Help System Dalta-Molino. Two tech-savvy students from the winning
team outlasted rivals from St. Paul University-Manila during the championship
round at Festival Mall in Alabang, and took home the grand prize of two (2)
Intel-powered notebooks and an Intel-powered tablet for the campus.
The Intel Digital Pinoy Campus Challenge was designed
to test students’ proficiency in using the internet to answer general knowledge
questions and to check their skills in completing tasks using software programs
combined with Intel-powered notebooks. The time-based competition is part of
Intel’s edutainment initiative to help teach consumers – particularly the youth
– how to make the most out of technology with campaigns geared towards
education and entertainment.
For each of the two competition rounds, competing
teams were provided with a notebook connected to the internet and pre-loaded
with basic productivity software and other quiz-related data. For round 1 or
the CyberHunt, teams used the internet to answer ten questions related to
pictures and audio / video clips displayed on a giant contest screen. The
questions covered a range of categories, including science and technology,
history and current events, sports, pop culture, geography, nature, business
and economics.
The second round dubbed Practical Know-how
challenged the teams to complete five productivity tasks as swiftly as they can
using basic Microsoft Office programs and internet-related activities like playing
online games and multimedia tasks. The third and final round, Head-to-Head
Speed Round, tasked each player to square off with his / her counterpart in the
opposing team to answer five difficult general knowledge questions using the internet.
Points during this round were higher than previous rounds, and gave competitors
a chance to take the lead.
Among other participating schools were the PIMSAT
Colleges-Cavite, Technological University of the Philippines-Manila, City
University of Pasay, Lyceum-Alabang, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Muntinlupa,
International Electronics and Technical Institute, Polytechnic University of
the Philippines-Manila, Universidad de Manila, University of Perpetual Help-Las
Pinas, and South Mansfield College.
“We wanted to engage the youth with a thrilling yet
instructive competition that challenges them to be resourceful and productive
to complete a given task, and at the same time, emphasizes the importance of maximizing
and utilizing technology,” said Randy Kanapi, Intel Philippines Marketing
Manager. “Intel believes that there are exponential ways to create, share, and
learn using a PC and connection to the internet. We are only limited by our
imagination.”
