Abraham Lincoln: Vampire hunter movie review

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter in 3D

Explores the secret life of one the United States' greatest presidents, and the untold story that shaped the country.  Visionary film makers Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov (director of Wanted) bring a fresh and visceral voice to the bloodthirsty lore of the vampire, imagining Lincoln as history's greatest hunter of the undead.

Tim Burton's new movie Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is an incredible movie of epic proportions.  A very ambitious approach to what seems to be a fictional take on one of the most prolific person the world has known.

The Darkest Hour in 3D

The Darkest Hour in 3D

In Moscow, five young people lead the charge against an alien race who have attached Earth to claim our planet and drain its power resources and its energy.

Simple right?  Let's fight back!  But what if we can't see what we are fighting and another thing they have shields that make them so formidable.  The movie starts slow, with the cast venturing into a business that was supposed to make them rich and famous, but things turned out not the way they wanted.  Then without warning, tragedy struck and the aliens devoured all of Earth's power resources, and with the heat and energy that humans emit, making them the next target by the aliens.

The movie shown in 3D is action packed, though a little ambitious, is capable of bringing excitement and fear, and is definitely worth your buck.  Special effects are amazing and the storyline is as good as it gets.  Catch it in your favorite movie houses.  Now showing in amazing 3D, brought to us by 20th Century Fox.

We Bought a Zoo - a movie review

We Bought a Zoo is a comedy-drama film based on a memoir by Benjamin Mee. The film is directed by Cameron Crowe, and it stars actor Matt Damon as the lead character Benjamin Mee. We Bought a Zoo tells the story of Benjamin Mee and his family who just moved into a dilapidated zoo. They took on the challenge of preparing the zoo for its reopening to the public.

I love how this movie was made.  It gives inspiration to people and makes them better.  A feel good movie about the up and downs of life.  How we can cope up with everyday stress and worries, about being a single parent, and how we in our small ways can indeed make change happen.

Based on a true story, We bought a zoo, not only brings joy and hope, but a renewed faith in what is human in all of us.    The movie also stars Scarlett Johansson and Thomas Haden Church with Elle Fanning.  Catch We bought a zoo, now showing at your favorite theaters.

Mission Impossible : Ghost Protocol movie review

Mission Impossible : Ghost Protocol

If there is one thing you must do this weekend.  Make it a trip to the cinemas or better yet make it to your IMAX theater.  It may costs you a few more bucks but the scenes, the views and the stunning clarity + the crisp clear sounds, make it all worth your buck!

I have had the chance to watch an advance screening of Mission Impossible : Ghost Protocol on IMAX, and I am definitely blown away!  As you should know, Mission Impossible is an action packed movie.  Expect big explosions, stunning special effects, chases, beautiful locations, and high flying stunts.

This may be a movie of many firsts, the first to ever shoot a scene outside of The Burj in Dubai, a first major explosion of the Kremlin (of course this is CGI), a first with so many comedic scenes, and I would say a first where almost all tech used is new and not from other movies.

Ethan Hunt, an IMF agent played by no other than Tom Cruise, makes a comeback with this unbelievably cool movie.  Blamed for the explosion at the Kremlin, and after being disavowed by the IMF, he must make haste to clear his name and stop the world from a nuclear holocaust from a nuclear war extremist.  This is the second time Cruise has worked with JJ Abrams on the Mission Impossible movies, and I would say they make a perfect team.  As an added bonus, do you know that you will be watching Mission Impossible : Ghost Protocol one week ahead from its US release or moreover the rest of the world?

Now showing at your favorite movie houses.  Watch it in IMAX, and see the difference.  As rumored there is supposed to be a preview of The New Batman movie, but as is has not yet been attached to the movie yet, so I would expect it to be attached when the US release is up.  Another reason to watch it again.  See you at the movies.

Thelma.... an inspiration to us all

After years and years of Philippine film making, finally a film worthy of praise and distinction.  From an up and promising director Paul Soriano comes "Thelma", starring Ms. Maja Salvador as Thelma.

THELMA (Maja Salvador) loves running. She runs in the fields of her hometown of Ilocos Norte. It’s the one thing that sets her free from a life of feeling unwanted and invisible to her family. A mischievous, tomboyish teenage barrio girl, Thelma isn’t what people expected her to be -- her farmer father, Aldo (John Arcilla) wanted a son; and her mother, Floring (Tetchie Agbayani) was in the middle of a possible athletic running career when she came along. She lives in the shadow of her younger sister Hannah (Eliza Pineda) who is smarter and favored by her parents. Despite her hidden envy of her, Thelma loves Hannah and they are the best of friends.

But due to unforeseen events, sets Thelma on a journey to use her gift of strength and speed, to run for her sister’s possible recovery because of a freak accident, for her family’s hope to rise from desperate poverty, and to redeem herself from the past. She is forced to grow up, study and work hard, learn, be disciplined and focus. Thelma runs and wins all the way to Manila, where she grows into a beautiful, young, female athlete, with new horizons and challenges.

Tetchie, a veteran actress of all time, has nothing but praises for the young Director Paul Soriano, in realizing his vision to make this movie a reality, and as Paul also speaks high words for Maja, who went through a rigorous training camp with star Ms. Elma Muros - Posadas, who is also in the film, her dedication to her role proved beneficial in making this film a success.

Catch Thelma at your favorite theaters, showing nationwide starting today Sept. 7, 2011.  Watch and be inspired.

THELMA is the first film under Time Horizon, in cooperation with Abracadabra and Underground Logic.  Distributed by Star Cinema.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes - the start of it all

RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES is an origin story in the truest sense of the term. Set in present day San Francisco, the film is a reality-based cautionary tale, a science fiction/science fact blend, where man’s own experiments with genetic engineering lead to the development of intelligence in apes and the onset of a war for supremacy.

The movie stars James Franco, Freida Pinto, John Lithgow, Brian Cox, Tom Felton, David Oyelowo and Andy Serkis.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes, yes we know what will happen after this movie, but do you what did happen before the apes took over Earth.  A prequel to blow your senses.  The CGI played its role and it was indeed flawless.  I believe the characters especially the people who portrayed the apes were trained well and indeed they would fool you as real apes.  The movement of the apes were very near real apes.  Even though we know that apes in real life are really not that aggressive, but the movie shows that through aggression, animals could lead to further violence.

The storyline was based primarily on Planet of the Apes, on how Earth came to be at that state, the original one and the remake which starred Mark Whalberg presented the future aspect of what was to become of the human race and Earth.  In the end, it all comes to us that even though how advanced or intelligent we may be, instincts will always come first.  And that is proven here in the Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

Now showing in your favorite cinemas.  Directed by Rupert Wyatt.  Brought to us by 20th Century Fox.

Mr. Poppers Penguins - a movie to watch with the family

Growing up in Brooklyn, New York, young Tommy Popper looks forward to the moments when, on his tiptoes to reach a ham radio in his bedroom, he can talk to his world-traveling father. Years later, Tommy is now Mr. Popper, a highly successful real estate developer in Manhattan. Amicably divorced from Amanda, with two children he sees on alternate weekends, Mr. Popper lives the life of luxury in his ultra-modern Park Avenue apartment and is well on his way to becoming partner at his prestigious firm. That is, until the morning a final gift from Popper's late father, a souvenir from Antarctica, arrives in a crate at Popper's front door.

Inside the wooden box, nestled amongst ice packs, is a two-foot tall penguin with bright orange feet. Not a toy penguin, or a stuffed bird from the taxidermist, as Popper at first assumes, but a real, live penguin, who scampers across Popper's floor and emits loud honks. Eager to be rid of this wild creature, Popper contacts every city and state agency imaginable, but no one is willing to take a pet penguin. His call to Antarctica to try to ship the bird back instead results in the arrival of another five penguins at Popper's door.

As he gets acquainted with his pet penguins, his winged roommates, Popper's life quickly unravels: his swanky New York apartment is turned into a snowy winter wonderland, the deal he's long been working on is derailed, and he almost lands in jail. But thanks to his new charges, Popper comes to understand the importance of family, human and otherwise.

My movie review

Did I enjoy this movie?  The answer is YES, and that is a very entertaining YES!  Jim Carrey is just fabulous, although many would not agree, if you have known him from the Ace Ventura days, well so much has changed, and as we all do, we age and so does Jim, but he never loss his charisma, his voice replications and his talent in acting.  And like whiskey, he's better as he ages.

The penguins used here in the movie were real live penguins, of course CGI played its part but most of it was definitely the penguins and they are so lovable... even though all they do in the movie is honk, they played a major role in giving us great entertainment and to let Mr. Popper (Carrey) realize the importance of family.

Take the whole family and watch this movie, brought to us by 20th Century Fox and now showing at all your favorite theaters nationwide.

Take Dad and watch this weekend to celebrate Father's Day.  Thank you Jim Carrey for making us laugh again.  And I just love Pippy, Mr. Popper's trusted assistant, watch her and you'll know what I mean.  See you at the movies.

X-Men : First Class movie review

X-Men: First Class

Before mutants had revealed themselves to the world, and before Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Not archenemies, they were instead at first the closest of friends, working together with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to prevent nuclear Armageddon. In the process, a grave rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto's Brotherhood and Professor X's X-Men.

This is the start of all we know about the X-Men, I am not a avid comic reader, but I was a fan of the late 90's X-men animation series which I' proud to say I still have a collection in tact.  Sad to say that animation series had to end.  But the comics still lived on to this date.  And thousands upon thousands worship Marvel's X-men and has grown quite a large fan base.

I guess you have watched the previous X-men movie trilogy a couple of years ago, which gave way to X-men origins starring Wolverine (Jackman).  Now with this franchise reboot of the X-men, with this X-men First Class as a start, hoping to get a 2nd life on this great Marvel spectacle.

Now is the movie worth the watch?  If you are an X-men fanatic, then there is no doubt, its worth the watch.  The movie starts with the familiar scene from the previous trilogy which shows the young Eric Lehnsherr (Magneto) manipulate metal to his liking.  Then to Charles as he first meets Raven a.k.a. Mystique.  The story focuses on the 2 main leads Eric and Charles, and how they have met, joined hands and then went on their chosen fate.  I have to say, I was quite impressed with the special effects being presented in the movie and I guess one of the most anticipated part of the film other than the great effects was the appearance of a cameo, you guess it, Mr. Adamantium himself...

Overall, it was a great movie experience as we get to know how the X-men came about, but there were scenes that I think were a little bit dragging.  Beast, Mystique, Charles are ok, but Magneto was the best portrayal for me.  Enjoy the movie and lastly you must be asking, should we wait for the end credits to finish?  Maybe they got something hidden at the end as almost all Marvel movies have done, sorry but for this case, the end credits is the end.  So pack up after the movie.  See you in the cinemas!

Laugh out loud with Greg in Diary of Wimpy Kid 2 : Rodrick Rules!

An awkward seventh grader suffers under his older brother's constant bullying. But the two grow close as they try and hide their mischief from their parents. But the pressure of hiding the truth eventually becomes too much to bear.

Greg Heffley is back with problems new and old, but none more prominent than the punishments of his older brother Rodrick.

I admit I am not an avid reader of the Diary of a Wimpy kid books, sorry to the avid readers, and one thing I have to admit I did not like the first movie as well.  But I just have to give it another try, and honestly speaking "I love this movie more!  I almost dropped off my chair laughing my heart out." Yes it was that good and it was that funny, I never thought I would be having so much fun watching this, what a pleasant surprise indeed.

Greg and his brother, join hands in making life easier for them to deal with their parents, but with their crazy antics and mischievous ways, it was just a matter of time before their parents found out of their crazy deeds.  Thus Greg has to suffer the wrath of his brother Rodrick.

Starring Zachary Gordon, Robert Capron, Rachael Harris, Devon Bostick, Steve Zahn.

This great movie is for kids of all ages even for adults, you would appreciate and reminisce the times when you were still young and having struggles with your brother or sister.  For kids, you would learn why no matter how beat up you get, he or she will always and forever be your brother or sister.

Catch "The Diary of a Wimpy Kid 2 : Rodrick Rules", now showing at your favorite movie theaters, brought to us 20th Century Fox.

RIO is where we all want to be!

A nerdy macaw leaves the comfort of his cage in
Minnesota and heads to Rio de Janeiro.

20th Century Fox and the creators of Ice Age bring to us a heartwarming story of how Blu (Jesse Eisenberg; The Social Network; Zombieland), who got separated at birth from his birthplace in Rio, embarks on an adventure to relive and to return to his homeland and discover the richness of his culture and his true being.

I love the story, I love the characters, I love the animation and I love the soundtrack!  Perfect to watch on any day with kids as young as 4 as well as kids at heart.  Rio has a star studded cast to boast of, with such talents as Jesse Eisenberg as "Blu", Anne Hathaway (Princess Diaries) as  "Jewel", George Lopez as "Rafael", Leslie Mann as "Linda", Jamie Foxx as "Nico" and Will i Am as "Pedro".

The storyline focuses on "Blu", a blue macaw held captive and was taken to the care of Linda, they both live a simple yet happy life, not knowing what adventures lie ahead, as they embark on a journey to Rio de Janeiro to discover why Blu is and will always be a part of Rio.

The characters of the movie were very admirable, the animation and the 3D effects were very consistent.  I love it because it did not make me dizzy, as most 3D films would make you. I am sure your kids will love the cute characters and the cute birds!!  I'm not sure but I think Angry birds did some cameo on the film... tell me if I'm right ok?

Now, the music sequences in the film were amazing, definitely a site to see.  Jamie Foxx has definitely got that voice, he is just the perfect voice for that moment, blend it in with the musical master that is Will I am, then you got a winner.

You will be amazed by the color, the richness of the culture, the beautiful scenery and  laugh at almost everything witty.  It makes me want to be there.  I recommend this 3D animation flick for all to watch.  You will be happy you did.

Showing now at your favorite theaters.  Catch Rio in Digital 3D in selected theaters.

Thank you 20th Century Fox for the privilege, and it was one fun night indeed.

From Prada to Nada - movie review

Two spoiled sisters -- Nora, a law student, and Mary, an undergrad party girl -- live with their father in a luxurious mansion in Beverly Hills. Mary has become so "90210" she refuses to admit she is of Mexican descent. When dad suddenly passes away, their posh lives are turned upside down. They discover they have been left penniless and are forced to move into their estranged aunt Aurelia's modest but lively home in the Latino-centric Boyle Heights neighborhood of East LA.

They are terrified to leave their world of privilege; neither Nora (Camille Belle) nor Mary (Alexa Vega) speak Spanish or have ever had to take on actual responsibility. The girls gradually adapt to their new environment; their BMW and Prius are traded for the public bus and a used car.

As they embrace the culture that for so long they refused to accept, they both discover romance, the true meaning of family, and they learn that the life of PRADA actually means NADA without love, family and community.

My review on this movie.
The Title of the movie was catchy, and yes it caught my wife's attention.  We went over to watch it and one thing was clear.  This is an example of how not to make a movie.  The storyline is indeed nice with the touch of Jane Austen's Sense and Sensibility.  I have no concern on what, which, where the setting is as it had fit well and the location played its part in the movie.  But if you want to reach out to a much wider audience, the most basic thing a director could at least do is put subtitles.

Why you say?  Almost 80% of the movie is set at East Los Angeles, and even some characters in the movie are saying this " You live in East L.A. and you don't know how to speak Spanish?"  Well if this movie was targeted for L.A. only then putting subtitles are out of the question, but since you reach out to the whole world, not to mention the rest of the United States, the producers should have thought of putting subtitles for all the scenes that uses the Spanish language for us to understand, and yes there are many many scenes that they speak in their native Spanish.

Also worth mentioning is Wilmer Valderrama playing Bruno, his acting has come a long way from his days at The 70's show, where comedy was more of his forte, but now he has come of age, and worth a second look.

I hope this serves as a wake up call to the producers and directors of said movie, and even though I may say it is a good movie, others may have appreciated it more if they understood every bit of it.... peace out.

After 127 hours , it's good to be alive

A mountain climber becomes trapped under a boulder while canyoneering alone near Moab, Utah and resorts to desperate measures in order to survive.

127 Hours is the true story of mountain climber Aron Ralston's remarkable adventure to save himself after a fallen boulder crushes his arm and traps him in an isolated canyon in Canyonlands National Park of Utah. Over the next five days, Ralston examines his life and survives the elements to finally discover he has the courage and the wherewithal to extricate himself by any means necessary, abseil a 65-foot wall and hike over eight miles before he is finally rescued. Throughout his journey, Ralston recalls friends, lovers (Clémence Poésy), family, and the two hikers (played by Amber Tamblyn and Kate Mara) he met before his accident.

My review on the film.  Admittedly the film is indeed very powerful, showcasing humanity at its finest.  How one can survive the harshest of conditions and lived to tell the tale.  As I can see it, human instincts came into play and the will to survive conquered it all.  James Franco plays Aron Ralston, is perfect for the role, he displays the authenticity of the emotions, the drama, the depression and the sanity that envelopes Aron.  He has developed to be one of the most sought after actors in Hollywood and with an Award Nominating performance here, this is definitely worth your time.

It may have its dull moments as that particular scene would last up to 80% of the movie, but for what it's worth, it is definitely one story of triumph for humanity.

127 Hours is now showing at your favorite movie theaters, catch the drama, feel the anxiety, and relive the human spirit.  Brought to us by 20th Century Fox.

ANNE HATHAWAY’S UNINHIBITED PORTRAYAL IN “LOVE & OTHER DRUGS”

"Love and Other Drugs "
present

Anne Hathaway

“Love & Other Drugs” showcases anew Anne Hathaway’s unconventional choices as she takes on the role of Maggie, a young artist afflicted with Parkinson’s disease that prevents her into entering life-changing decisions especially when it comes to relationships. Anne’s extraordinary risks in her career continue in “Love & Other Drugs” where she takes another brave choice and pushes her boundaries in  a story of love’s powerful nature between a couple who tries to resist but eventually surrenders.

I can still remember her days at "The Princess Diaries", now she's all grown up and is taking on more challenging roles, which has made her one of the most sought after actresses of our time.

“Love & Other Drugs” tells of two people, both free-spirited who started out having casual sex which then evolved into something much more complex.  Maggie’s disease makes it difficult for her to continue her work, slowly impairing her speech and motor skills.  Jake on the other hand plays Jamie Randall who is an ultimate seducer working at the giant pharmaceutical Pfizer. The two initially agrees to a no-strings-attached arrangement, just sex whenever and wherever each of them needs it.  But as their casual relationship turns into weeks, both feels an uneasy change when Jamie unexpectedly mans up and starts taking responsibility for Maggie. Maggie, on the other hand is slowly opening up to the possibility of depending on to somebody to entrust her life.
“When Maggie meets Jake, she is at a transitional moment in her life,” says Hathaway.  “She hasn’t accepted her challenges, and more importantly, she hasn’t been able to accept herself.”
Hathaway and the filmmakers made sure that Maggie’s condition shapes the character’s attitude and was always in the service of the character.  “I loved how seemingly fearless Maggie is,” says Hathaway.  “I was moved by the challenges she faces and by the façade she presents to the world, as an idealized sex goddess who is fine with everything and anything. But there’s an aching and yearning there; she’s scared and vulnerable, and a wonderful person under all of that.  As an actress, you dream of opportunities to explore those things.”

She received advice from another real warrior in the drug wars, Lucy Roucis, a professional actor with Parkinson’s disease (diagnosed when she was in her late twenties) who now works in Denver with an acting troupe called PHAMALY (the Physically Handicapped Actors and Musical Artists League, Inc.).  In the film, Roucis also plays a part as a person afflicted with Parkinson’s whose shtick at a convention for Parkinson’s patients helps Maggie begin to come to terms with her condition.

Anne Hathaway shot to stardom when she starred opposite Meryl Streep in the sleeper hit “The Devil Wears Prada.”  She eventually secured her place among the highest echelon of actresses when she starred in Jonathan Demme’s critically acclaimed “Rachel Getting Married” where she garnered nominations from Academy Award, Golden Globe®, Independent Spirit and SAG Award in the lead actress category.

Hathaway recently starred in box office hits – the ensemble romantic comedy “Valentine’s Day” and in “Alice in Wonderland.”  Her other film credits include “Bride Wars,” “Get Smart,” “Becoming Jane,” “Passengers,”  “Brokeback Mountain,” “The Princess Diaries” and “The Princess Diaries 2: The Royal Engagement,” “Havoc,” “Ella Enchanted” and “The Other Side of Heaven.”  She also stars as the lead voice Jewel in the upcoming colorful family movie “Rio.”

“Love & Other Drugs” opens January 26 in Manila, Cebu and Pampanga theaters from 20th Century Fox to be distributed by Warner Bros.

CHRONICLES OF NARNIA: VOYAGE OF THE DAWN TREADER - movie review

The Pevensie children are already familiar to fans of the C.S. Lewis classic Narnia novels. The books tell the stories of their journeys to the enchanted world of Narnia that they initially discovered at the back of a wardrobe in the first book in the series, THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE. That novel and its sequel PRINCE CASPIAN were adapted to create highly successful films.

In THE VOYAGE OF THE DAWN TREADER, the story centers not on Susan and Peter Pevensie but on their younger siblings Lucy (Georgie Henley) and Edmund (Skandar Keynes), who undertake the voyage of a lifetime.  The adventure begins in Cambridge, England, during World War II when the children are staying at the home of their unbearably irritating cousin Eustace Clarence Scrubb (Will Poulter).   All three are swallowed into a painting of a beautiful ship out at sea.

The children find themselves under the ocean and emerge above water to see the majestic Dawn Treader in front of them. They are hauled up on deck, where all except Eustace (who hates adventure and wants to go right back home) are thrilled to be on board, together again with their great friend Caspian (Ben Barnes), who is now King Caspian. Other familiar faces from Narnia include their friend Reepicheep, the brave warrior mouse.

They are whisked away on a mysterious journey to the Lone Islands and other strange lands. Caspian’s mission is to discover the fate of the seven noble Narnian Lords of Telmar who were sent into exile by his evil uncle.
On this bewitching voyage they confront magical Dufflepuds, sinister slave traders, dragons and enchanted merfolk. The future of Narnia itself is at stake.

This is also a transformational journey for all aboard the Dawn Treader. Initially at odds with each other, this ad hoc crew gradually discovers a deep sense of family and friendship.
I find this film very inspiring, even though I am not a follower of the book.  The story centers on 4 characters of the movie Lucy and Edmund, Eustace (their cousin) and now King Caspian.  They trek through the seas on the Dawn Treader in search of the Lords to save Narnia from the evil lurking within.  Our heroes are then tested of their fears and worst nightmares to conquer the evil within them and in Narnia.  What happens is a twist and turn of events that led to the strengthening of friendships among our heroes.

Experience it on 3D.  The special effects of the movie were very good and 3D just made it better.  Expect laughter and adventure all over.

“Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader” opens December 3 in 3D cinemas and subsequently on December 9 in all cinemas across the Phils. from 20th Century Fox distributed by Warner Bros.

Unstoppable hits theaters November 12

A train carrying toxic chemicals suddenly goes out of control. An engineer and his conductor race against time in a daring plot to chase down the runaway train and stop it before it derails and causes a major tragedy.

Directed by Tony Scott.  This is another one of those awesome films that Tony Scott and Denzel Washington have teamed up to make, with the previous successes of "The Taking of Pelham 123" with John Travolta and "Man of Fire" where Denzel plays a bodyguard for a family and risks all to save them.

Tony Scott has been going the trend of making movies that are based on true to life stories, and "Unstoppable" is not exception.

Non-stop thrills, non-stop action, pure adrenalin rush and with all that a dash of comedy, well you have to have a sense of humor for that.  That is what I would say about Unstoppable.  I love how Tony brought the whole film into picture, how the media spotlight was used in some crucial aspects and scenes.  It made the movie very realistic as if it were happening in real time while you were watching the movie.
The excitement over the movie just keeps building up, and I was really having a hard time containing my fear, excitement, and emotions as they were really kicking in as the movie had progressed.  The chemistry between Denzel Washington (Frank) and Chris Pine (Will) is great.  The movie may start with them having contradicting ideas and arguments but as soon as the drama comes in, they blend quite well.  We should be seeing another Denzel and Chris and Tony working together on another project, hopefully.

Should you watch this film? A definite YES, if you want action and excitement, and a jump from your seat kinda movie then this is for you.  Take a step into reality and learn that everyday heroes are not born but made.

One of the good films this year has to offer.  It has everything a good film has to be, drama and light laughter, excitement and an adrenaline rush.

Showing at your favorite theaters on Nov. 12. Thanks to 20th Century Fox for the sneak preview.  Brought to us by 20th Century Fox.

The Social Network.... my review

On a fall night in 2003, Harvard undergrad and computer programming genius Mark Zuckerberg sits down at his computer and heatedly begins working on a new idea. In a fury of blogging and programming, what begins in his dorm room soon becomes a global social network and a revolution in communication.

A mere six years and 500 million friends later, Mark Zuckerberg is the youngest billionaire in history, but for this entrepreneur, success leads to both personal and legal complications.

Hmmm.... how do we start this review.  Oh here we go, first question do you have a Facebook account?  I guess with almost 500 million subscribers already in Facebook, 1 in 10 should have a Facebook account worldwide, with the exception of China, which also has their version of Facebook.   I was invited to a sneak preview from NuffNang and was glad to be one of the first to watch it.

The Social Network, as we all know is about Facebook, how its roots have been implanted into almost every human on the face of the Earth.  There was once Multiply, Friendster and tons of Social networks trying to find their way to the net.  But one stands out, Facebook.  There has been cases filed between the so called makers of Facebook and Mark Zuckerberg.  And as it goes, it all boils down to this. MONEY.

Why would anyone even be affected by this.  You just have to see, how and why even your best friends can sometimes be your enemy, and that nothing in the world is free. Even an idea.

The next question is.  What is next after Facebook?

"The Social Network" showing tomorrow in all major theaters nationwide.

Going the Distance... movie review

Erin's wry wit and unfiltered frankness charm newly single Garrett over beer, bar trivia and breakfast the next morning. Their chemistry sparks a full-fledged summer fling, but neither expects it to last once Erin heads home to San Francisco and Garrett stays behind for his job in New York City. But when six weeks of romping through the city inadvertently become meaningful, neither is sure they want it to end. And while Garrett's friends, Box and Dan, joke about his pre-flight calorie-cutting and his full-time relationship with his cell phone, they don't like losing their best drinking buddy to yet another rocky romance.

At the same time, Erin's high-strung, overprotective married sister, Corrine, wants to keep Erin from heading down an all-too-familiar road. But despite the opposite coasts, the nay-saying friends and family, and a few unexpected temptations, the couple just might have found something like love, and with the help of a lot of texting, sexting and late-night phone calls, they might actually go the distance.

This movie is an example of why it is not recommended to keep a long distance relationship, yet on the contrary this is also the perfect example why it is worth going the distance and continue to have that next to impossible relationship.  Yes you may have heard of lucky couples who did make it through the tough times of having a long distance relationship, survived it and lived on as a couple to tell you that it is possible.

The concept of the movie is very simple, yet its simplicity has drawn me deeper into the movie and indeed made me fell for it.  Drew and Justin have great chemistry, since they were formally a couple before they broke up last July.

This is definitely a love story, and definitely a comedy film you will always be reminiscing when you get old... even though this film is a couple's film, I do believe single men and women should also give it a shot and watch it with your friends, as it can make you believe that there is love out there for you and for everyone.  It may not be the right time, or the right person now, but believe and he or she will come for you.

Remember all things come to those who wait.  And watching this flick made me a believer.  Go on and watch, and give your heart and mind something to believe in, LOVE.

Going the distance, now showing at your favorite movie houses.

Step Up 3D.... perfect 3D experience

A tight-knit group of street dancers, including Luke and Natalie, team up with NYU freshman Moose, and find themselves pitted against the world's best hip hop dancers in a high-stakes showdown that will change their lives forever.

Finally, I got to chance to watch this movie, after my 2-week vacation in Europe (tiring trip, not really a vacation I would say, but more on exploration trip haha!!).  I have wanted to catch this flick, and only in 3D.  So when I checked when I got home, it was already on it's second week and this movie although having little publicity compared to the first 2 films that went out should do well in cinemas especially as it is shown also in 3D.

One thing I would like to recommend my readers and friends who plan to watch this movie.  Catch it only in 3D.  Yes it may cost a little more but trust me, it is worth every penny of your hard earned money.....  the full length feature is in full 3D from the start to the ending credits.

The storyline is quite predictable, what to watch out for are the intricate dance moves, the wonderfully orchestrated dance routines, and I so love the robots..... you'll see what I mean when you get to see the movie.  All the moves past, present and very innovative moves are all showcased in this movie.  The characters in the movie are quite talented, and you would be amazed on how they move.

The filming of this movie in 3D, is almost perfect, it showed the perfect angles and views, and yes you will try to avoid the moves headed at you haha....as most of the audience did.  Overall, it was quite a great experience.  Sad to say only a few theaters are showcasing this, as 3D cinemas are still few, and a lot of movies are already showing in 3D, so the films are sharing the few cinemas made available to us.  I do hope that cinema and mall owners would go to the trend of upgrading their cinemas to show 3D, as more and more films coming up are featured in 3D.  Now go watch it now.

One more thing to watch out for is the great soundtrack featuring:

1. Club Can’t Handle Me – Flo Rida (Feat. David Guetta)
2. My Own Step – Roscoe Dash & T-Pain (Feat. Fabo)
3. This Instant – Sofia Fresh (Feat. T-Pain)
4. Already Taken – Trey Songz
5. This Girl – Laza
6. Fancy Footwork – Chromeo
7. Beggin’ – MadCon
8. Up – Jessie McCartney
9. Bust Your Windows – Jazmine Sullivan
10. I Can Be A Freak – Estelle
11. Whatchadoin’ – NASA
12. Tear Da Roof Off – Busta Rhymes
13. Move If You Wanna – Mims
14. Shawty Got Moves – Get Cool
15. Irresistible – Wisin y Yandel
16. Let Me C It – Get Cool (Feat. Petey Pablo)

and one more featured song, old and wonderful song “I won’t Dance” by Fred Astaire, well a remix by District 78

Directed by Jon Chu.

Step Up 3D is still showing at the following cinemas until tom. I guess, but I sure do hope they extend it.
