On its 143rd year, Eastern Communications, one of the country’s pioneers in the telecommunications industry, reaffirmed its commitment towards a sustainable future through various efforts aimed at reducing its carbon footprint.
As part of its “Heart of Service,” the telco’s holistic year-long campaign is directed towards promoting a sustainable lifestyle in the workplace. On top of delivering cutting-edge solutions to its customers, championing human connection, as well as caring for their Ka-Eastern, clientele, and the community, protecting the environment is also at the heart of Eastern Communications brand.
“In line with our corporate purpose, we place CSR at the heart of our service. As a responsible telecommunications provider, we will continue our efforts to reduce our carbon footprint. The responsibility for mitigating climate change involves us all, we know we can always count on the commitment and innovation of our staff to conduct business in a manner that will protect not only the planet but the future generations as well,” said Hannah Lazatin, Eastern’s Brand Communications Head.
Eastern Communications has the company progressing towards sustainability solutions such as transport alternatives, by encouraging bike rides to work and carpooling. Moreover, the telco is promoting the reduction of waste in the workplace as well, by going paperless at the office and utilizing digital tools to replace physical documents.
“For 143 years, we have made it our mission to provide our heart of service to businesses and families across the nation. Our collective strength is a force to be reckoned with. Once our strong connection together with our unified purpose is acted upon, the remarkable is bound to unfold,” added Head of Marketing Jed Estanislao.
Extending support for sustainability
Driven by its “Heart of Service,” Eastern Communications is also committed to upholding initiatives toward sustainability and carbon reduction efforts. The telco sponsored the Wala Usik Challenge 2022: #HackThePackaging, a nationwide virtual hackathon organized by the Philippine Reef and Rainforest Conservation Foundation, Inc. (PRRCFI) from February to April 2022.
This hackathon is an initiative under the “Rethinking Plastics – Circular Economy Solutions to Marine Litter” project, co-funded by the European Union and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented by GIZ and Expertise France.
Wala Usik Game Masters, Adobo Magazine Creative Director Chaz Requina and PRRCFI Executive Director Dave Albao, hosted the Level 3 program of the hackathon, while Eastern’s Brand Communications Head Hannah Lazatin and Segment Marketing Specialist Carmina Marquez welcomed the participants.
The best ideas will be granted up to 1,000 EU each, and all generated concepts may be visualized in an open-source Magalog for Circular Packaging Design Ideas to inspire everyday circular thinking and future business ventures in the circular economy.
“We believe that a stronger tomorrow is not imagined or predicted, it is built. Through participating and supporting meaningful initiatives like PRRCFI’s Wala Usik Challenge, we’re able to help them in attaining their main goal of achieving a circular economy. We also hope to extend the same support to other organizations,” said Lazatin.
