GCash, the leading mobile wallet company
in the country, was awarded the “Best in Future of Customers and Consumers” at
the IDC Future Enterprise Awards (Philippines)
for its “Go Cashless with GCash” campaign. The award highlights the impact
GCash has made on the lives of over 50
million Filipinos by making safe digital transactions accessible to them, as
part of its “Finance for all” vision.
The IDC Future Enterprise Awards recognizes the outstanding
organizations that have made breakthroughs in business in a digital
transformation framework and had a successful implementation of digital
initiatives that address new customer requirements, development of new
capabilities, deployment of new critical infrastructure, and pursuit of new
industry.
“We are grateful to the IDC for recognizing GCash and the hard work and dedication of the people behind it. GCash served as a lifeline to many families during the lockdown, enabling them to do their everyday lifestyle transactions from the safety of their own homes. This recognition will serve as an inspiration for us to continue with our mission of giving access to digital financial products and services to as many Filipinos as possible,” said Joanne Avendano, Head of Customer Experience Management of GCash, who received the award.
“When the COVID-19 pandemic hit the
country, GCash migrated to a new system with the capacity to service 50 times
more customers than previous capacity. The new platform allowed us to be more
responsive to the customers’ growing and changing demands while providing more
layers of security and better risk management capability,” Avendano added.
GCash has provided safe and convenient
ways for customers to pay and transfer their funds, such as “Send Money,” “Bank
Transfer,” or “Pay Bills.” GCash was also able to address other needs of
customers such as insurance coverage for as low as P39 through GInsure, GCredit
for pre-approved credit line, and GInvest for
easy investment in a market fund. The mobile wallet app also has the
GLife feature, where users can buy essentials, food, gadgets, and more.
For businesses, especially micro, small,
and medium enterprises (MSMEs), GCash provided them with a safe, contactless
way to accept payment for their goods with QR codes and a P2P platform. Today,
even jeepney and tricycle drivers and fishermen use GCash as a mode of payment.
With this, customers are also given the convenience and safety of paying for
their essentials without using cash.
Tapped by the Department of Social
Welfare and Development, GCash supported the government's Social Amelioration
Program in distributing P16 billion to more than 2 million Filipino families
and the nation’s frontliners through the app. At least P40 million in donations
for COVID-19 and typhoon relief were also distributed to various non-government
organizations (NGOs) in the country via GCash.
With all these digital financial products
and services, GCash was able to grow its subscribers from 33 million in 2020 to
over 51 million by the end of
October 2021.
With its rapid growth, GCash promises to
continue innovating to meet the needs of its customers. “We shall continue to
evolve our customer experience to protect their trust and confidence,” said
Avendano.
