Adidas King of the Road commences

The Fort, Taguig City, Philippines – Adidas, a global leader in running, launched its very own Running Championship across Southeast Asia for 2011 titled the Adidas ‘King of the Road’ (KOTR). Held in five countries across the region, the Adidas KOTR will culminate in an ultimate championship race in its first ever host country, the Philippines, on October 23, at the Bonifacio Global City, The Fort.

The race made its regional debut in Thailand (May 15), Singapore (August 28), Indonesia (September 25), Malaysia (October 2), and the Philippines (October 23). It is aimed at bringing runners together from across the region as part of Adidas’ commitment to the sport.

The event is open to participants across two categories –the ‘Closed’ category (Men /Women) is for local participants and the ‘Open’ category (Men/Women) is for international participants. The winner of each of the other four countries’ Closed categories (Men / Women) will qualify for an all-expense paid trip to compete in the adidas KOTR Southeast Asia Championship in host country Philippines on October 23, with the race commencing from popular running hub Bonifacio Global City, The Fort, in a bid to be crowned the Adidas Southeast Asia ‘King of the Road 2011.’

Adidas KOTR, a race that has been held for over 10 years now, sports a new logo this year. KOTR will also feature a different theme each year, beginning with this year’s theme titled ‘Colours’. This is represented through the variety of different coloured adidas singlets participants will don, yet another first for KOTR this year. The multi-colour showcase is meant to demonstrate the vibrancy of the sports scene across Southeast Asia.

With a unique 16.8km route offered this year, the city race is targeted at everyone who likes to run –from the social runner, to the serious athlete.

“As a global leader in running, Adidas is geared towards helping runners all over the world perform better with the introduction of products, technology, and platforms designed purely with a runner’s needs in mind. The organisation of running events such as the Adidas King of the Road Championship is meant for runners to challenge themselves and achieve personal breakthroughs,” said Marcus Chew, adidas Senior Manager, Brand Communications and Sports Marketing, Area Southeast Asia.

“This event comes at a time when running is becoming increasingly popular among Filipinos and across Southeast Asia. Keeping up with this fitness trend, we hope to contribute to the vibrant sports scene in the Philippines and the region by cultivating sporting habits and an active lifestyle. In addition, we hope that the adidas KOTR will offer runners the opportunity to run different routes across the region that will ultimately enhance their running experience”.

With the availability of premium running products and training platforms, Adidas provides runners with the tools needed for a better run—whether it’s finishing the first marathon or breaking a personal best. From the AdiNation of Runners, a running community formed to help motivate and train running enthusiasts to train together on a weekly basis; to the launch of the adidas MiCoach virtual training system, nothing else gets a runner more prepared for a race than adidas.
