South London singer-songwriter Skye Newman returns with her new single ‘Walk’,
a sharp and defiant release that captures her at her most direct and
unfiltered.
The track unfolds as a lyrical
confrontation as it documents a moment every listener can relate to - where
patience runs out and self-preservation takes over. Skye’s delivery is
typically controlled but cutting - pairing emotional clarity with dark humour.
It is a song about recognising emotional damage for what it is and choosing to
step away rather than absorb it.
Written by Skye Newman alongside
long-time collaborators Boo and Luis Navidad, and marking her first
collaboration with Chrissi, ‘Walk’ continues Skye’s reputation for turning
lived experience into sharply observed songwriting. The production remains restrained,
allowing the lyrics to carry the weight and leaving nowhere for the narrative
to soften.
Lyrically, ‘Walk’ traces the imbalance of a relationship in vivid detail. Skye captures frustration, humiliation and emotional exhaustion with a bluntness that feels conversational and typically honest. Lines are delivered without embellishment as she documents defending someone at her own expense, chasing loyalty that is never returned and finally drawing a clear boundary. The repeated image of walking becomes both literal and symbolic - a final act of reclaiming control.
Speaking on the release, Skye explains, “Walk
is about taking back your power when a relationship is no longer serving you,
putting your heels on and walking away.”
The release arrives as Skye Newman wraps
a short stint in the US performing shows in NYC and Los Angeles, and continues
a remarkable ascent. She is the winner of BBC Radio 1’s Sound of 2026, a
two-time BRIT Awards nominee for Song of the Year and Breakthrough Artist and a
MOBO Awards nominee for Best Newcomer. Her catalogue has now surpassed 196
million global streams, with Skye ranking as the number 13 biggest streaming
British female solo artist in the UK in 2025 and number 71 worldwide. She is
also the only UK female artist in the past decade to have three debut singles
reach the Top 20.
Recent releases have cemented her impact
on both charts and culture. ‘Family Matters’ peaked at number five,
spent seven weeks in the Top 10 and is certified Gold, while ‘Hairdresser’
reached number 15 and remained on the chart for 14 weeks, also achieving Gold
status. Skye has amassed over 1.5 billion short-form video views, supported
Lewis Capaldi across the UK and Ireland, appeared on stage with Ed Sheeran in
Ipswich and joined Sienna Spiro on her EU tour. In December of this year, Skye
Newman will head to Sydney, Australia to open for Harry Styles on his Together
Together tour.
