The country’s largest private employer, Convergys, recently distributed 1,000 “Bags of Hope” to elementary students in Alabang Elementary School, Muntinlupa City, during a visit on July 31. The public school has been a long-term partner of Convergys in various CSR initiatives, such as feeding programs over the last four years.
Employees can donate through several ways: aside from a monetary pledge and actual donation of school supplies, each successful referral also results to a bag of hope donated in the employee’s as well as new hire’s name.
For this campaign, each Convergys site across the country selects its partner local public school. Three of Convergys’ Alabang sites joined forces to support 1,000 of Alabang Elementary School’s Grade 1 students as the beneficiaries of employee-donated bags of hope filled with school supplies.
“Receiving the bag of hope from a Convergys employee motivates me even more to go to school every day and focus on studying, because I don’t need to worry about my school supplies anymore,” says a Grade 1 student during the recently concluded school visit.
“The Give a Bag of Hope campaign will give them the determination to make things better. It will inspire and strengthen them to do well in school,” says Dr. Antonio B. Rocha, Alabang Elementary School Principal.
Convergys Alabang 4 Site Director, Oliver Salavante shares, “The campaign means a lot to the employees who either donated or volunteered for the school event. Our gestures may be small when compared to the number of students everywhere who needs assistance, but we know that our collective effort makes a big difference in the lives of children in Alabang Elementary School, right here in our local area.”
Sarah Sudario, Site Director of Alabang 2, shares the sentiment, “The generosity of hundreds of Alabang employees made this donation possible. We also appreciate the hundred volunteers who joined today’s distribution. Because many of them live here in Alabang and have friends or family whose children go to the school, the involvement is very strong.”
The company aims to provide more than 20,000 Bags of Hope to students across the country, as visits to partner schools of various Convergys sites continue throughout July and August.
