“Taken 2” opened (Oct. 4) to a very
strong weekend in the Philippines, dominating the local box-office with its
4-day nationwide opening weekend at P64.82million. The figure translates to an
astounding 60% slice of the domestic market nationwide who came to see Neeson
return as Bryan Mills, an ex-CIA whose special skills are unmatched and stops at
nothing to protect his family.
“Taken 2’s” 4-day opening weekend at Metro
Manila with a box-office of P46.32million alone amassed higher, ten times more
than its predecessor. With its current box-office, Neeson’s “Taken 2” took in new
records and is now the Biggest Opening Weekend for a Fox film this year. It
also etched in as the 7th Biggest Opening Weekend for a Fox film All
Time and is so far the 3rd Biggest 4-Day Opening Weekend for a Fox
film All Time.
Ayala Malls Cinema’s Trinoma led “Taken
2’s” strong weekend gross that packed in the most admissions (17,204) with a
gross of P3.2million. SM Mall of Asia
came in next with a whopping P3million gross.
Cinemas that also raked in millions of box-office receipts included in
the top ten are Glorietta4 with P2.63million, Powerplant P2.3million, SM North
Edsa/The Block P2.29million, Newport P2.21million, SM Megamall P2.08million,
Eastwood P1.9million, Alabang Town Center P1.58million and Gateway Cineplex/Ali
Mall P1.57million.
More cinemas within “Taken 2’s” million
mark are SM Cebu with P1.53million, Ayala Cebu P1.42million, Robinson’s Ermita P1.34million,
Shang Cineplex P1.19million, Theatremall P1.18million, SM Fairview P1.11million,
Greenbelt3 P1.1million, Filinvest P1.07million, Robinson’s Galleria P1.06million
and SM Southmall with P1.04million.
From the first movie “Taken” which
struck a nerve with most people globally who find Neeson’s character relatable,
“Taken 2” brings the action and thrills a notch higher as Bryan Mills tries to
escape from his captors while trying to save his wife and daughter. Also starring in the movie are Famke Janssen
and Maggie Grace.
“Taken 2” is still showing nationwide in
more than 100 cinemas from 20th Century Fox distributed by Warner
Bros.
