Employees volunteered to join this year’s Eat and Run ScholaRun by AmCham’s Foundation.

To help send disadvantaged youths to school, Chevron Philippines Inc. (CPI), marketer of the Caltex brand of fuels and lubricants, together with its shared services center, Chevron Holdings Inc., sponsored the recent 9^th AmCham Eat and Run ScholaRUN at the Liwasang Ulalim, CCP Complex, Pasay City.

The run-for-a-cause is an annual event by the American Chamber Foundation Philippines, Inc. (ACFPI) to help raise funds for its scholarship program. ACFPI supports underprivileged youth through various development and education initiatives.

The scholarship enables students in high school, college, and vocational courses to fund their tuition fees and school supplies and provides allowance and guidance all to way to their on-the-job training. At least 2,000 former AmCham scholars were able to finish their studies since the program started which Chevron has always supported.

Women play an essential role in society. Studies have shown that women make better leaders, bring about higher returns to economies, and improve the lives of people in communities.

Women’s position in society means it is important to prioritize and understand their health. They face a variety of health issues, with cardiovascular disease as the leading cause of death for women around the world. According to The Lancet, 35% of deaths in women worldwide are caused by cardiovascular disease.

Women are also at risk for cancer, a leading cause of death worldwide. The World Health Organization revealed that it accounted for 10 million deaths in 2020 or the equivalent of nearly one in six deaths.

Breast cancer is the most common of its kind in the Philippines and the world. It is the majority type of cancer that affects Filipino women at 31%. Additionally, it is the third most fatal type of cancer in the Philippines, just behind lung and liver cancer. Global figures are just as alarming: the disease is the most common cause of cancer death in women.

The report reveals insights into the latest tactics of ransomware gangs; financial, geographical, and industry impacts based on data gathered from Unit 42 investigations.

Palo Alto Networks found that ransomware and extortion cases in the Philippines increased by 57.4% in 2022 with 11 reported cases across key sectors. Threat actors are utilizing more aggressive tactics to pressure organizations, with harassment being involved 20 times more often than in 2021, according to Unit 42™ incident response cases.

This harassment is typically carried out via phone calls and emails targeting a specific individual, often in the C-suite, or even customers, to pressure them into paying a ransom demand. The 2023 Unit 42 Ransomware and Extortion Report shares insights compiled based on findings from Unit 42’s incident response work from approximately 1,000 cases throughout the past 18 months.

Hong Kong Welcomes International Tourists with Air Tickets Giveaway

Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) is launching a global air tickets giveaway campaign, "World of Winners”, which will offer 500,000 free tickets in Hong Kong’s major passenger markets for travelers to visit the city and experience its unique offerings.

Distributed in phases by Hong Kong’s three home-based airlines: Cathay Pacific Airways, Hong Kong Express, and Hong Kong Airlines, the campaign is kicking off in March 2023 by giving away some 135,000 tickets in Southeast Asia markets, including the Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, Cambodia and Indonesia. About 30,000 tickets will be given to residents in the Philippines via the three airlines’ promotional activities starting from 3 March. After the Southeast Asia markets, the campaign will continue in Northeast Asia, Mainland China and other markets.
