Electrolux lightens the loads of moms and women with washing machine donation

Leading global appliance company Electrolux Philippines, together with its supply chain partner CEVA Philippines, has donated 200 washing machines to mothers, communities and organizations in the Philippines.

Called “Love You Loads”, the program was designed to help lighten the loads of Filipinos through modern appliances. The washing machines will go towards GMA Kapuso Foundation and Gawad Kalinga’s beneficiaries and programs.

During the turnover ceremony held at the Electrolux office, Electrolux Philippines Country Marketing Manager Andrea Soto-Pionilla shared, “May is the time where we recognize and share our appreciation for mothers and all the hard work that they do. Electrolux wants to express our support for moms and families all over the country.”

“Mothers have so many concerns to juggle – from work to taking care of their children and the house on top of that! Laundry should be the last thing they need to worry about. Having a washing machine in their household can make this chore faster and easier so that she can move to more important things and families can spend more time together,” she added.

Meanwhile, Mark Hoolahan, Human Resources Director of North Asis Cluster of CEVA, said, “CEVA Logistics is immensely proud of our long term business partnership with Electrolux. We are privileged to be able to partner with Electrolux in assisting such worthwhile causes as the GMA Kapuso Foundation and the Gawad Kalinga community.”

Through the advent of technology, modern appliances have helped to transform the home life of Filipinos, allowing homemakers to do chores more efficiently and giving them more time to enjoy with family.

Gawad Kalinga Luzon Building Communities Head Jon Ramos shared, “I know the stories of the mothers in our communities and when we told them the news during one of our meetings, many of them said that to have a washing machine is really one of their dreams.”

Mother of six Amy Gomez from the Gawad Kalinga community in Bagong Silang attested to how useful having a washing machine is for a big family like hers.

“As a mom of six, I really have to multi-task. I have to cook, wash dishes, and mend their clothes. There are eight of us in the family, that is eight sets of clothes every day so as a mom, it was such a huge relief for me when we were able to buy a washing machine back in 1993.”

She currently shares the appliance with two other families in their neighborhood and talked about how she wishes others in her community could be blessed with one of their own. “Doing the laundry is hard so I can only pray moms in the area could have their own washing machine to make their lives easier and their families happier.”

Aside from benefiting households, the washing machines will also be donated to GMA Kapuso Foundation’s partner organizations who need the units to serve the underprivileged.

“We have a lot of partner organizations, most of which handle indigent patients. The washing machines will go to halfway houses like Child Haus, which is our partner for cancer,” shared GMA Kapuso Foundation COO and EVP Rikki Escudero-Catibog.

“There are a lot of children who can’t afford treatment in Manila so they go to Child Haus for a place to stay while undergoing chemotherapy. If you are a parent with a sick child, how can you do the laundry while you are in Manila? The washing machines will come in very handy,” said Escudero-Catibog.

Other beneficiaries include mothers and families residing in Kapuso Villages located in typhoon devastated areas in the Visayas and Mindanao, Damascus House, a place for recovered drug addicts which also offers livelihood projects for mothers and families; and the dormitories and barracks of the Civil Relations Service of Armed Forces of the Philippines.

Employees of Electrolux Philippines also participated in the program by creating cards for each washing machine, sharing a personal message of encouragement for the beneficiaries.
