SHS - Ateneo de Cebu, Hua Siong College of Iloilo mobs to the 32nd SBP-Passerelle Visayas finals

The Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu and Hua Siong College of Iloilo advanced to the nationals after their impressive win at the Visayas regional finals of the 32nd SBP-Passerelle twin tournament, the longest-running twin tournament in the country, held at the Iloilo Sports Complex.

In the SBP division, the SHS-Ateneo blocked every opportunity to keep their opponent – St. John Institute of Bacolod - from scoring, making it impossible to close the gap and ending the game with a final score of 57-43. Third place was given to Hua Siong College of Iloilo after defeating St. Mary’s Academy of Capiz, 52-37.

Meanwhile, Hua Siong College of Iloilo had a harder time securing the Passerelle regional championship title against Bacolod Tay Tung High School. After an intense match, Hua Siong College of Iloilo won with a score of 57- 53, while University of St. Carlos came in 3rd after winning against Hercor College, 45-26.

Other regional play-off will be held on October 28-29 in Pangasinan for Luzon and on November 11-12 in Davao for Mindanao. SHS-Ateneo and Hua Siong College of Iloilo will represent the Visayas in the upcoming 32nd season of the SBP-Passerelle Twin Tournament national finals on December 2, 2017 in Cebu.

The twin-tournament also annually awards the much-coveted Sportsmanship award to deserving schools not only for the exemplary skills showed by the students in playing basketball but also for the discipline and fair play shown by parents, coaches, school staff and guests who attended the event. This year, the award was given to Bacolod Tay Yung High School in the Passerelle division and St. John’s Institute of Bacolod in the SBP division.

Organized by the country’s premier sports clinic, Basketball Efficiency Scientific Training (BEST) Center, the 32nd SBP-Passerelle Twin Tournament is supported by MILO, in cooperation with Rain or Shine Elasto Paints, Chris Sports, and SKLZ. It provides a venue for under 15 and under 12 age groups to apply what they learned in basketball training and showcase their skills.
