Rise Against Movie Piracy Philippines Extends Deadline; Makes Last Call for Entries to Video Competition

Rise Against Movie Piracy Philippines (RAMP-PH) a video-making competition, today announced a deadline extension for submission of entries to September 25, 2016. Consolation prizes include a Canon Vixia HF video camera, and video-editing software. For the grand prize winner, one lucky student will be entitled to an all-expense paid trip to Los Angeles, California, USA to participate in the LATC Global Film & Television Program 2016, a full-time, intensive 40-hour course open to filmmakers, media managers, lawyers, professors, executives and government officials from all over the world.

Open to students who are currently enrolled in film or media-related courses in Metro Manila, video entries must be no more than 60 seconds long and explain why Filipinos should respect copyrighted content or what should be done to protect IPR online. The video-making competition aims to raise awareness on the importance of respecting movies, TV shows, music and other copyrighted content by obtaining these only through legal means.

The competition seeks to encourage today’s youth to support films by watching the theatrical release and refraining from pirated media such as torrents or peer-to-peer sites. As digital natives, today’s youth consume content mainly online through their mobile or PC devices. By patronizing legal sources such as subscription-based streaming services, Filipino TV and movie fans help the creative community to continue making movies and TV programs that audiences love.

RAMP-PH is organized by the Intellectual Property Office Philippines (IPOPhil), Motion Picture Association (MPA), and the United States Embassy, along with the country’s leading video-on-demand service providers Blink, Hooq and iFlix and the Korean Copyright Commission (KCC).
