Giving Back to the Community through Samsung’s First Regional Employee Volunteer Program in Southeast Asia & Oceania

As part of the Samsung Global Volunteer Festival 2015, Samsung rolled out its regional Love and Care program in Myanmar on 3 October 2015. Under this initiative, Samsung volunteers from all across Southeast Asia and Oceania countries went to the Pann Pyo Let Monastic Education School in Bago Division to provide food, stationery as well as engage over 400 school children in interactive learning activities through technology.

“This is the first time we are rolling out the Samsung Love and Care program in the region and we are delighted to be in Myanmar to spend meaningful time with the children. Through this program, we want to share with them our knowledge and skills through a series of interactive learning activities and contribute positively to the local community,” said Irene Ng, Vice President, Corporate Marketing, Samsung Southeast Asia and Oceania.

Since 1995, Samsung has been organizing the Global Volunteer Service Festival that encourages its employees to volunteer their time for Citizenship activities aimed at addressing problems faced by local communities. Taking place in October every year, Samsung employees all over the world donate their time and talent to create and drive positive impact in the community where they work and live in.

As a global citizen, Samsung believes firmly in using our global network and innovation to create positive change for people everywhere, helping them to live a better life that is full of possibilities. The company is passionate about creating a better future for people, utilising its technology and solutions to provide better access to education and improved educational opportunities for young people around the world.
Samsung Electronics Philippines Corp. (SEPCO,) celebrated the Global Volunteer Service Festival in the country through environmentally oriented activities.

On October 9, SEPCO employees conducted environmental awareness sessions for grade school pupils of the EM’s Signal Village Elementary School in Taguig City. The sessions made use of Samsung’s learning tablets to engage students in interactive discussions about climate change. Around 400 students participated in the sessions.
SEPCO also worked with World Wildlife Fund Philippines to conduct a Coastal Rehabilitation Campaign last October 17 in Barangay Bucana, Nasugbu, Batangas. Around 40 SEPCO employees, along with young members of the community, planted around 300 indigenous trees and removed more than 9 sacks of trash along the coastline during the day-long event.

Regionally, Samsung also drives other Citizenship programs that support youth education and job training through the use of its technology, services and expertise. They include Samsung Smart Schools that provide immersive learning opportunities for students through tailored education, enrichment and infotainment content enabled by Samsung technology, and Samsung Tech Institutes where Samsung partners with vocational institutes to provide relevant skills-based training that prepare students for the real world in industry. Under this initiative, Samsung also provides expert teaching to help young people learn fundamental IT and engineering skills.

SEPCO, in partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd), launched the Samsung SMART Classrooms project to build an interactive and collaborative learning environment in remote, underserved schools. Through Samsung’s resources, the project aims to enhance and improve the teaching and learning process, while providing the students a fun and engaging place to learn. SEPCO also collaborated with Yuchengco Museum to help students appreciate arts and culture by providing customized augmented reality experience to know Philippine landmarks through the mobile application, Culture Explorer, and the exhibit, Plazas of Manila, which helped Filipino children discover their heritage and culture through Samsung technology.
