MILO renews partnership with DepEd, backs upcoming Palarong Pambansa

Leading beverage brand MILO today announced its renewed partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd) as the official energy drink of this season’s Palarong Pambansa in Laguna. MILO’s collaboration with DepEd echoes the campaign for grassroots sports development across the archipelago and the brand’s mission to build a nation of champions.

As one of the most anticipated youth sports platforms in the country, the Palarong Pambansa attracts the country’s best young talents from the district to the regional level. From May 4 to 10 of this year, the national sports event is set to welcome over 15,000 athletes and coaches from 17 regions for heated competitions in 19 sports disciplines.

“Supporting the Palarong Pambansa is both an honor and opportunity for MILO to further its commitment to holistic development of student-athletes. We are one with the local government in launching a platform that gives the youth a chance to play against their peers nationwide and develop experience in competition-level games,” says MILO Sports Marketing Manager Andrew Neri.

Apart from the national tournaments, MILO and DepEd are also working together to reinforce youth sports through the National MILO Marathon and MILO Little Olympics. According to Neri, the invaluable support of DepEd in two of MILO’s biggest sports programs is instrumental to engaging more than 200,000 runners for the country’s biggest running event and 24,000 little champions for the most widely participated interschool league each year. “We are seeing a steady growth in the number and quality of participating athletes in our multi-sporting events. In fact, several young champions who have competed in the Palarong Pambansa have also played and won in the MILO Little

Olympics and other MILO-sponsored sports programs,” adds Neri. The list of notable athletes that have vied for titles in the Palarong Pambansa includes MILO brand ambassadors such as BEST Center Volleyball Clinic graduate and Women’s National Collegiate Athletic Association (WNCAA) MVP Princess Gaiser who bagged silver and gold medals in the 2011 and 2012 games, respectively.

Rising cager Prince Carlos, football phenom Jed Diamante, and budding triathlete Yuan Chiongbian have also showcased their prowess in the annual tourney. For 50 years, MILO has advocated athletic excellence in the country and established itself as a trusted partner in developing the next wave of champions in sports and in life.
