Many people now dedicate their free time to decorating their homes and making sure their private spaces reflect their personal taste and style amid the pandemic. A truly great way to create a unique vibe in one’s home are one-of-a-kind art pieces that spark interest and conversations among its viewers.
Casa de Memoria, the Lhuillier-managed auction house, offers world-class pieces that can add enviable European and Filipino touches to any home. In celebration of Casa de Memoria’s 5th anniversary, the auction house is holding Segundo, its second auction event for the year featuring exquisite art pieces. Segundo will be held on May 22, Saturday, at 2 o’clock in the afternoon.
“Art is an integral part of our lives as it’s an expression of one’s emotions and captures particular moments in time. Incorporating art pieces in our house truly makes it a home. It can lend fun and visual drama to your home, while uplifting your mood during these times,” said Palacio de Memoria general manager Camille Lhuillier-Albani.
Here are some of the highlight lots at Casa de Memoria’s auction that can elevate your home:
Historic map. A framed art piece from the 18th century which shows an engraved map of the Philippines and the neighboring countries signed by Isaak Tirion would be best placed in your den to give it some character.
Philippine sketches. To further enhance your work-at-home space, embrace these pieces from Filipino artist, Romeo Tabuena (1921 – 2015): a pencil on paper drawing depicting a Filipino indigenous man signed and dated 1960; and a pair of 20th century pencil on paper drawings, each depicting seated figures.
For a focal point in your home, don’t miss out on the piece from Filipino artist, Manuel Montoya, illustrating a courtyard scene. It’s a 19th century oil painting on canvas, which can bring class and subtle drama to any room.
Religious art. The Segundo auction also has religious pieces that may bring comfort during these times and a touch of elegance to your altar. Interested buyers can look forward to oil paintings, such as Santísima Trinidad, a mid to late 19th century oil painting on canvas depicting the Holy Trinity attributed to Filipino painter Justiniano Asunción (1816 - 1896) and the St. Jerome oil painting from 18th to 19th century on wood by Juan Arzeo. Another oil painting at the auction is a 19th century icon painting on wood depicting St. Barbara by Filipino artist, Antonio Malantic.
The Peruvian School Pair of Portraits Depicting St. Francis Xavier and St. Francis of Paola is a great option, too. They are each in mirrored frames depicting angels. For a classic European look, you may also consider a set of 3-piece reverse glass painting depictings Quotidian scenes to adorn a blank wall in your home.
Ethical ivory pieces. For a touch of sophistication in your living room, dress up the coffee table with a 19th century English ivory trinket box or the Sadeli Box of Anglo-Indian provenance from the19th century. The latter is made of ivory with minute parquetry out of dyed horns, bones, pewter, and mother of pearl with a wooden interior.
Elevate your home, your safe haven during these times, with art and other pieces that can bring comfort and joy at Casa de Memoria’s Segundo auction. Take home an art piece and you will be supporting a worthwhile cause as Casa de Memoria will donate part of the auction proceeds to a local charitable institution to help those badly affected by the pandemic.
