Essential health checklist for dads

Father’s Day is the perfect opportunity to let our dads know how important they are to us and how much we want them to be healthy — even moreso with the current pandemic.

As we celebrate this special day for dads, AXA Philippines, one of the country’s leading insurance providers, offers an essential health checklist so you can help dad achieve optimal health.

Remind him to get annual health screenings. Preventive healthcare is the most effective measure men can follow to live healthier lives. As your dad ages, it is important to encourage him to have regular medical check-ups to prevent health risks common among men such as colon and prostate cancer, stroke, diabetes, and heart attack. As soon as he turns 50, it is vital for him to get an annual prostate screening to detect prostate cancer, especially if it’s in the early stages, which may be easier to treat.

Singapore Pop Artist Dominic Chin Releases BETTER via Umami Records

Singapore pop artist Dominic Chin has released BETTER, the fifth single of his 7-track debut EP License To Cry, via indie label Umami Records.

BETTER is a poppy, free-spirited song about the joys of being high on love. Dominic Chin shares: “This song is inspired by love! There’s a quote that says ‘falling in love is the best high without breaking the law’, and I fully agree! The whole chorus talks about how flowers smell better, time passes much slower, the sky is BLUE-ER. How you don’t ever want time to stop when you’re with the person you love.”

Fun, playful melodies accompany Dominic’s beautiful and infectious vocals, leading up to unapologetically brash and compelling choruses which he proudly belts out. “I felt like it needed a quirky aspect too, and that's why I sang ‘You-you-you’ with a slight yodle. AND I love showing off my whistling skills. I have been practicing for years, finally I can properly show it off!” shared Dominic.

GBF & URC face shields get seal of approval from hospitals

Dr. Felicitas A. Soriano of Veterans Memorial Medical Center tries out a URC-produced face shield. GBF delivered more than 100,000 pieces to hospitals within April and May.

The Gokongwei Brothers Foundation (GBF) and Universal Robina Corporation (URC) completed the distribution of over 100,000 reusable face shields to 33 hospitals, as the country ramped up its response to the coronavirus pandemic.

Health workers in the frontlines gave a thumbs-up to these face shields.

“Given the variety of face shields that we got from our warehouse, these were the most user-friendly,” said laboratory manager Ma. Lourdes Gatbonton, of The Medical City.

“They provide the right amount of distance between the user's face and the shield. The person using it can breathe much better, unlike with other face shields,” said Gatbonton. “They also do not moisten or have that clouding effect so it allows us to see better and work around the laboratory without trouble.”

According to Dr Joseph Angelo Kiat of the surgery department at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center, the clearer acetates also help with visibility.
