OFW Guide: how to avoid illegal recruiters when finding job abroad

In hopes of landing great career opportunities and providing better lives for their families, aspiring Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) had to spend a hefty amount of money, do a lot of paperwork, and leave their loved ones back in the Philippines.

However, not everyone is as lucky as they thought. With more and more Filipinos willing to secure a job outside the country, many of them were deceived by unauthorized recruitment agencies – false documents, assigned with a different job from what was promised, and robbed of their hard-earned money. Just like this guy in this video:

The quest for health and a natural look boosts sales of beauty products in Asia

Kantar, the world's leading data, insights, and consulting company, announced that key drivers of growth in the Asia beauty market are natural ingredients that help consumers achieve good skin health, makeup that helps people obtain a natural look, and skincare products aimed at male shoppers. The Beauty Trends in Asia report highlights the key drivers behind the +8% growth in beauty product sales between 2017-18 compared to +4% for fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) as a whole, while sales of personal care products in the region continue to outperform the total FMCG market.

"Asian people believe health is almost twice as important to their happiness as having more money," says Ashley Kang, Head of Beauty Sector at Kantar Worldpanel division. "They see what they put on their skin as a health supplement – and this has changed the products and benefits they desire. They are extremely knowledgeable too, so brands must be transparent in their communications. The wellness trend is also encouraging certain emerging formats to thrive."

The holiday rush and banking errands are definitely not a good mix.

Yesterday, I dropped by the bank to deposit and transfer money. But what usually takes only around five to 10 minutes became an hour of waiting in line. There were only two tellers present to serve around 20 people when I came in.

I knew banks are extra busy around this time of the year so I kept postponing my banking errands for a week to avoid the long lines. But I had no choice but to endure it until yesterday as I had to meet payment deadlines.
Because of the long delay, I had to skip lunch just to wait in line...that really made me very grouchy, who isn't especially on an empty stomach.  I had to quickly rush back to the office to make sure I got in before my lunch break finishes.  Now I had to squeeze in my lunch in 5 minutes just to make it in time.

Really that is a waste of time, and when you’re on a tight schedule like me, getting stranded in the bank for an hour can be so frustrating and troublesome especially when you have to carve out from the little time you have to catch up on missed errands and obligations.

LG Electronics launches the Brand-New line up for Single Commercial Air Conditioners

(L-R) LGEPH Brand Ambassador Mr. James Deakin, LGEPH Air Solutions Business Development Manager Mr. Rod Astoriano, LG Electronics Asia B2B Air Solutions Sales Manager Mr. Joohoon Kim, LG Electronics Commercial Air Conditioner Business Leader Mr. Junsuk Lee, LGEPH Vice President for Air Conditioners and Energy Solutions Mr. Young Park, LGEPH Air Solutions Sales Head Mr. Michael Piccio

As the leader in the HVAC industry, LG Electronics (LG) recently held a press conference at Solaire to formally introduce the brand-new 2020 line up for single commercial air conditioners (CAC).

Air-conditioning is integral to everyday life in the Philippines, owing to the tropical climate that can get blazing hot at times. However, according to the Global Competitiveness Report by the World Economic Forum (WEF), electricity in the Philippines ranks a lowly 92nd globally, meaning the price of electricity is very high. This makes air-conditioning not feasible for some households due to the costs involved. Recognizing this issue, LG, by applying innovative technology, has achieved a high-efficiency and cost-effective solution in the brand-new line up for single CAC.

ASUL: Reviving the Blue in Pasig River Through Music

To make Pasig River blue again, waters clear enough to reflect the blue skies above it—this is the vision that led NCCA, PRRC, and PETA to come together and create Taga-Alog 2019, a campaign that aims to voice awareness on environmental issues through the use of the arts. Taga-Alog, literally shakers, is inspired by the old Tagalog term for “people from the ford.” With this, the campaign wants to build a community of River Warriors—ambassadors who share the campaign’s values of environmental awareness and responsibility for the rehabilitation of the Pasig River.

After a series of efforts and activities throughout the year, Taga-Alog concludes with ASUL: The Taga-Alog 2019 Grand Concert held on November 9, 2019 at Rizal High School, Pasig City. Together with 4000 passionate people who gathered to support the event, the culminating concert hosted by Pepe Herrera and Yesh Burce celebrated the fruits of its cause through a night of music and commitment.

The X Factor: Celebrity Contestant Interview - Kevin McHale

Q) What made you decide to go ahead and compete on the series?
A) I thought it would be a great challenge for myself to see if I really loved performing, I had to convince myself that I wasn’t too old or had missed the opportunity. I hadn’t performed since the Glee tour in 2011, so the thought of going on The X Factor scared me, but I realised that is probably why I should go ahead and compete and see how it goes.

Q) Can you tell us if there is a difference between performing as Artie in Glee, and performing as Kevin on The X Factor?
A) Performing on this show feels entirely different to performing on Glee as firstly I’m on my own, and secondly, I’m not playing a character - it’s just me out there as myself. That in itself is scary because all the responsibility and pressure is on me, and because I’m not very competitive, I feel like I’m just competing with myself. Ultimately, I want to think about how I can go on stage feeling like I did myself proud. I want to watch back my performance and think I did a good job, that’s all I can do.

Now on its 8th year, the 2019 Top Leaders Forum’s theme is “From Risk to Resilience: Forging Pathways and Milestones.” Ms. Mami Mizutori, UN Special Representative to the Secretary General (SRSG) will deliver the keynote address while Mr. Hans T.
